Hi,

I was wondering what semiautos (res/nonres) in .308/bigger then .223 that are available that can achieve .5 MOA out of the box. I guess a designated marksman style rifle. I was looking at an AR10(T) (I searched here but not a lot of hits for AR10) but I don't know much about the rifle and the M14/M305 which I am familiar with. Is that it for Cad availability? What do AR10 owners have to say about their rifles are they good?

You could build a precision AR. Good SS barrel (White Oak, Noveske) , one of the new billet upper (Larue, Viltor) good trigger (Giselle).

Dang I just saw you wanted bigger than .223

I don't think your stock AR10 is going to shoot .5 MOA without some serious (read pricey) improvements. Since we're talking about a 10k gun, ever consider a KAC SR-25? It'll shoot 1 MOA out to 600 yards.

AR10T is hardly a 10K gun

While I've shot and own a AR10T and have shot three versions of the SR-25 -- I think that the SR-25 is a nicer gun but not for the vast increase in price --- plus KAC is not selling to civilians right now.

My original AR10T was a moa gun when I got it from GT.
I replaced the trigger (I HATE Armalites match trigger) with a KAC unit. It shrunk the groups down a bit to about 3/4"
Then I put on a KAC SR25 RAS and had the barrel bobbed to 20" - It seemed to tighten up a bit more -- but I am not a good enough shot to be a steady submoa shooter all the time to tell.

Your in Shilo -- go see John Hipwell and ask to look over a AR10T.

Les Baer AR15's are not worth their cost either...
They use a Wilson barrel -- not anything more fancy than a DPMS, and a lot of their parts are not thought thru very well.

I'm not sure any such animal exists. It can be done with an AR-10 or an M1A with enough work on it.

I've got to disagree with Kev on the Les Baer AR-15s, I think they're awesome in my admittedly limited experience. I hear a lot of people saying they're nothing special, but let's face it, there are a lot of people out there nowadays making AR-15s for CMP. There's only so much you can do with an off-the-shelf rifle. But I was very impressed with the one I tried. To the point that I seriously considered buying one, but given my current location that wasn't an option.

However, if you want something special you've pretty much always got to have it built to your spec and load. Even the top shelf makers have to make their rifles with the average consumer in mind, i.e. this guy might want to put Winchester USA through it.

Springfield M1A National or SuperMatch........

Put on a JAE100 stock & you have a fine no restriction .308 Semi tact driver...

It doesn't look like there is a lot of experience with the AR10s. I don't want an M14 series rifle. I think I might try Wolverine Supply and see about an AR10...

Rock River Arms is in the process of perfecting a .308 AR. Once it's complete Questar will have them available.

Fultan Armory also has some M1 Garands in .308 or 30-06. They have one that is guaranteed to shoot 1 MOA or better. They also have an interesting scout rail available to mount an Aimpoint with a throw lever. The best part is they use 8rd clips instead of 5rd mags. I'm thinking about getting one for my next purchase - using Questar for the importation...

My only experience with an AR-10 is with a flat-top Armalite in .308 Win that's sitting in my gun safe at the moment. Since it wants to consistently shoot about .75 MOA out to 300 meters with Israeli ball ammo, it will have a place in my safe forever! :p

Even stranger is the fact that it has a standard weight barrel, not the heavy target version. The only thing I had done to it was a trigger job.

Life is just like that sometimes. I think it's a bizarre cosmic redressing of all the bolt action rifles I've owned that wouldn't shoot better than 2 MOA.
