Precision semiautos?

Getting a CONSISTENT 1/2 moa out of a bolt rifle takes a bit of work. I doubt you'll find a factory 308 semi that'll pull it off. Maybe there are some semi-custom jobs from the 'custom shops' or botique manufacturers that'll do it, but those aren't really 'out of the box' guns. An AR-10 would be a good starting platform, and it might even be able to produce the odd 1/2 MOA group if you get a good one. But to be able to shoot into 3" at 600 yards, shot after shot, consistently - you'll need some custom work. In any case, bring the VISA

Hi,

I was wondering what semiautos (res/nonres) in .308/bigger then .223 that are available that can achieve .5 MOA out of the box. I guess a designated marksman style rifle. I was looking at an AR10(T) (I searched here but not a lot of hits for AR10) but I don't know much about the rifle and the M14/M305 which I am familiar with. Is that it for Cad availability? What do AR10 owners have to say about their rifles are they good?

I'm a tinker. I've got two AR10s, one a 10t. I have no expectations of .5 inch groups.
What I've learned is if you work with a 168 or 175 grain bullet, use IMR 4064 powder, uniform your cases, I use Remington, do the primer pockets, trim the length, resize in good dies, with a good seater die, you will be so pleased that .5 inch group may not matter that much. I do my shooting a 300 and 500 yards and have a ball.
My biggest problem was learning the oddities of the ar10t compared to bolt and lever guns.

Yes, same as any other AR variant.

Fultan Armory also has some M1 Garands in .308 or 30-06. They have one that is guaranteed to shoot 1 MOA or better. They also have an interesting scout rail available to mount an Aimpoint with a throw lever. The best part is they use 8rd clips instead of 5rd mags. I'm thinking about getting one for my next purchase - using Questar for the importation...

Fulton Armory will NOT ship/Export to Canada, or outside the U.S.

IMHO, if you want a tack driver, get a boltgun.

Trying to get a tack driving Semi-auto will drain your wallet, and will take lots of your time trying to tune it. Been there, done that.....many times......

I have owned/built Match M14s, M14 DMRs,M14 Sniper versions & AR SPR clones. I recently sold off my SPR as I am tired of tweaking/tuning gas guns, and would rather spend the time shooting and save my money for other things.;)
