This weekend is the PGWDTI/DCRA Western Canadian F-Class Championship at St. Charles Range in Winnipeg. This is an 800-1000 yard F-Class shoot under some very challenging conditions, including incredible mirage (Shooting very low to the ground... no raised mounds) challenging winds and long distance.

The continuum of experience and ability spans the entire spectrum with a few courageous souls braving their first ever F-Class Match, and a good smattering of experienced shooters.

I have several photos from this event and they can be viewed here.

These shooters know how to shoot long range with precision. The photos are not detailed to tell the whole story, but lots of 7mm's, 6.5's and 6mm's in open class.

Scope choice... overwhelmingly Nightforce. Several Leupold, S&B and various other makes though.

Actions: Mostly accurized factory Remingtons, but several customs as well... Robertson stocks abound, 50/50 pedestal rest and bipod, with most Western Shooters using bipods. Several Savage FTR rifles in FTR class! Sorry, not one Stevens 200 seen :)

Hats off to Prairieguy for organizing a fisst-class shoot! We had a Barbeque and were given the privilege of a personal tour of the Prairie Gunworks operation! Seeing the bits and pieces of all those very cool rifles in production was a real treat.

PGWDTI's support of shooting sports - and this event - are above and beyond the call. I have a whole new fondness and appreciation for the excellent craftsmen and corporate citizens that they are. Their support of shooting sports in Canada is exemplary. A HUGE thank you to Ross and Steve!!!

Anyway, here are a few photos of the match!

Cheers,

Ian

Let me echo Ian's comments. Hats off to Les, the local volunteers and PGW for an outstanding shoot. Today was tough, but at least the mirage was better. We could see the target, even if we couldn't always hit it. One more day...

Who's the guy in picture # 30 with the red/white maple leaf rifle? Details on that by any chance?

ORA F-Open shooter Bruce Condie. He is shooting a 6.5-284 and the stock is a Robertson Composites 1000 yd Benchrest/F-Class stock. The action is custom... BAT I think, and beyond that I don't know any more about his equipment.

Here is a link to a few more pics if you missed them in the Competition forum:

It has been nice to put a face to those who I have only talked to via a keyboard and screen....GSoD and Pete1 to name a couple that I recall off the top of my head. :)

I too would like to say thanks to Les for putting on, what has been, a great event so far, also to Ross and Steve at PGW for their part in helping Les get this off the ground, the AWESOME pig roast and the tour of their shop....very impressive......Thanks Guys!!!!!!

Thanks to both posters for the pics.. I was there and it was my first long range shoot with less than 300 rounds throught my Savage F/TR in 308 and i just had a blast!... A great bunch of guys who never hesitated to give advice when the newbie needed it. I just want to say that now i am totally addicted to long range shooting. Thanks to Les and Steve and all the others for putting on a great event. The winners worked hard for their trophies and deserve them rightfully.. those winds where brutal!

Im looking forward to shooting my next long range shoot!... and am tickeled that i appeared in a few pics.. Thanks Ian...

Just wish i would have won that PGW Coyote! but the Savage will have to due for a few years now.. LOL..
