Precision/Sniper/Tactical

Thesilverfox, lets here the story on your rifle please it is a beautiful kit and nice pictures.

Here is a post i made on 6mmbr in march of 2006.

Figuring out the type of rifle that makes the most sense for oneself take a lot of patience and self reflection.

This project first came about when going to the local gunshop just didn't do it for me anymore. I knew there was more out there, for the true rifle nut, than going from a remington to a sako or from a bushnell to a leupold or khales.

So about 6 months ago i started my education towards the high end rifle market.
As well as saving my pennies, lol.

So Here are the final components that my Smith and I have come up with.
Keep in mind this is very personnal.

Action: Kelby Grizzly II Repeater RHRP, fitted for a remington type safety
Why? because its custom and it can still take field work without binding up.

Stock: Mcmillan A-5 black molded with adjustable cheekpiece and lenght of pull
Why? because i prefer prone shooting but aso like the fact that it has a wide slopped forend

Barrels: Clay spencer built interchangeable 308 special match and 6mmbr lapua barrels
Why ? because i couldn't make up my mind on wich caliber, so i got both,
Basically with this setup i can get any caliber barrel in the future with a 308 boltface.

trigger: jewell, why? cuz its the best.

Scope: Schmidt & Bender 5x25x56 Police marksman II With the P4 reticle
Why ? Do i really need to explain!.

Rings And bases: Badger Picatinny style

Smith: clay Spencer
Why? Cuz he's well known for his outsanding long range precision rifles.
and hes a nice guy.
heres some of his work.

Very nice who put them together for you? What WSM caliber are you going for? I am just about to have one built using a Surgeon action and AI stock - but thinking about 6.5x47.

What barrel contour did you go for?

Just a little question from a newb. Can we have a L96 in Canada, where do we buy it and how much.

Thanks, I just love that gun and I would like to own one.

The gunsmith is ban from this site so I won`t say, but if you look at this pic....

10rnds at 200yds

Probably 7mmWSM.
The 308 is 1.1" at the muzzle(25")
260AI is .92" at 26"

6.5x47 looks good, have you check the 6mmBR forum?

Yes, I have checked the 6mmBR forum. There's an article on the Britactical in the 6.5 round. The other round that intrigues me in a bolt gun is the 6.5 Grendel, and I am sure with the right magazine configuration this would work well with its lower recoil as a tactical rifle out to 600.

I am thinking about the 7mm WSM too. I think Berger do a 180 grain VLD which should be good past the 1k mark.

BTW - nice looking gun, how's it shooting?

I would not go for the Grendel in a bolt, it is design as a compromise for the AR plateform.
If you reload, 6mmBR or 260Rem are very good calibers in a short action
Shot only 75rnds so far, best group while testing loads = 7 rnds out of 10 in 0.7" at 185yds

I have heard some very good reports about the 243 AI. The 6mmBR forum has a good article on it - but I think fireforming is a bit of pain. I think somebody does a 120gr VLD in 6mm.

AICS chasis question

hi SSGP2, i just want to ask where did you purchase the stock with the mono pad, i believethat is an AICS chasis but most of them don't have a mono pad at the stock... if you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the stock and the mono pad? thank you so much & happy new year.

Ps. you have a very good looking rifle.
