Predator call for Black Bears

Called them in the spring, used Raven & fawn in distress intermixed. From what I've experienced they are a lot slower moving & take considerably longer to come in than coyotes. In the fall, I don't know how to sound like a chokecherry or a cranberry?

I have taken two bears directly using calls, but I have also used them successfully to position bears and to bring in bears that were in locations not conducive to stalking them... probably a dozen or so in total that were responding to calls. I have used dying rabbit calls, fawn in distress and moose calf in distress calls, and one night-feeding boar was brought in during legal hours to a bait site with coon squalling.

I did a Saskatchewan style double once using cub squalls for about a half an hour then switching to a snowshoe when I just couldn't stand it any more. At the switch a coyote came smoking in and I took it with a 270 Weatherby. I stood up, and saw the bear been trying for. Bang.

Where I get the best use out of a predator call with bears is when they are feeding in standing oats. It doesn't much matter what you blow at them; they stand up to see whats going on. Helps if you can shoot fast.

The old calf moose mouth call has brought them for me before in central BC (spring hunting). Others swear by rabbit squealers, but I haven't tried them personally.

On a bet from army buddies I took my Quaker rabbit call into the crown land and chain of lakes end of Black Bay road, just behind and south west of the town of Petawawa. Had a nearly immediate response from a huge black bear. Experiment over!

Never shot one but have had them come to the calls above while hunting coyotes. Probably less than 5 times and each time I was not impressed (scared really).

I find the wolves show up much faster in the fall.
Ive had a bear walk back and forth along a marsh edge and keep standing and looking but it never swam across the marsh. I had no way of retrieving it so i let it go
