I know it's early but i'm getting restless. I want to get into predator hunting this winter in southern ontario but no one I know is really interested. I was wondering if there was some members of CGN that were into it and perhaps some advice. Thanks!

Get a good electronic caller...Fox-Pro have been getting rave reviews on this site by the predator hunters.
You should be out hunting ground hogs in your area and getting permission to hunt on some properties now.... the alphalfa has been cut!

Wow you're cutting hay!! it ahs been very wet here this June. it had better stop soon or we won't be cutting hay.
Good advice on the Gr.hogs. Now is the time to get around to secure land for the fall/winter. Talk to livestock farmers, sheep especially.
They will be likely glad to have someone take out a few coyotes. Calling in the west is different than the east, simply because we have large pieces of land available to hunt an permission is easy to get.
Our tactics and even our firearms are different. I never use a shotgun here, but when I hunt the thick stuff, I sure do.
I seldom use decoys, here because i can see the coyote coming from a mile away.literally.
On the smaller areas in the east a e=caller with a remote and a decoy can improve your chances for success. When a coyote comes in through the cover it puts his focus on the sound and movement of the decoy and away[upwind] of the hunter. with hand calls he will home in on the sound and when he breaks the cover, the hunter is at a disadvantage if he isn't in position for the shot.
There's alot of little things that make for a successful stand and I'm sure ther are guys here that will chime in. Ask questions, or if you can try to hook up with someone experienced.

ill give a 3rd vote for an e-caller although some consider them cheating when it comes to hunting yotes, to me it doesnt matter as long as you get em

I havent been at this very long but I will add a little of what I have learned.
An e-caller is a good choice if you can afford it. I have one of the older F series foxpro's and I use it quite a bit. It doesnt have a remote so there are a few situations were I cant use it. I use hand calls as well, a good cottontail/woodpecker call would be a good start. Once you learn some of the coyote vocalizations you can pickup a howler and add that to your arsenal.
If you cant afford the $700 for a new FX3 or newer there are tonnes of custom call makers that make terrific calls.
Watch some of the coyote hunting videos out there (Randy Anderson by and away the best) to pick up little tips and tricks.

Well thanks for the advice, i'm sure more will be adding to it too. As far as land I have lots, my dad has a 408 acre farm and I know lots of the other farmers that want me to come out too probably afew thousand at my finger tips inbetween the Owen Sound Guelph area.
As far as the ground hog scenario that might be a problem.....does anyone have some breeding stock available? I shot too good and too many they are starting to come back abit this year but it has been along time since we have really had any around.

I was up in the Durham/Mt Forest area this weekend and the ground hogs were pretty thick. I'd be back up that way this weekend to see if I could get a few, but bass season opens Saturday.... Bass are yummy, groundhogs not so much. I may get out after they take the second cut of hay.
