Looking for a scope to put on my S2 in .223 and thinking 4-12x. I love Nikon (use a Monarch 3 on my hunting rifle) and also looking at the Redfield. What do you guys use?

Nikon prostaff 5 on my 22 250. 3.5-14×40 with bdc reticle. Love the scope but kind of wish I would have went with the monarch instead. I've had really good luck with Nikon optics.

Zeiss Victory 4-16x50 on my Remington LVSF in .204 Ruger. I find the quality of this scope makes the long shots easy. Well, that and a good trigger. I have my come-ups written inside the pop-up lens cover for up to 600 yards.

Is this a calling rifle or a hunting rifle. Honestly for the majority of predator hunting opportunities a standard 3x9 with a good field of view is more valuable than many of the higher powered options . IMO

The majority of my predator hunting shots are at 100-200yrds no need for any more the 3-9x.....at least that has been my experience here in Onterible.

Most of the time, VX111 LRs in 4.5-14 x 40m with B&C reticles. The reticle matches my loads for 22/250 and .204 .

I'm in fairly open country much of the time; there's the odd time I wouldn't mind a little less magnification when setting up tighter.

If you have experience with Nikon Monarch scopes and "love" them as you say, then there really is no need for you to look elsewhere.
A 3-12 power is plenty for the task at hand.
(BTW, I love my Nikon Monarch scopes)

If weight is a concern at all (pushing rifle as opposed to calling rifle), the leupold VXR 4-12 x 40mm is a fantastic scope and only weighs 14.6 ounces. You will not find a scope that light with more features:

30mm tube
fire dot, motion switch illumination, (I've shot more than a couple coyotes in low light that I would not have without it)
Leupold alumina flip caps, the best
decent glass

My current favorite if you have the budget is the VX6 3-18 x 44mm. Goes as low as I need and the 18X has been great for coyotes and jack rabbits around 400 yards. They have been discontinued for the HD version, you may still find a deal on one. The VX5 3-15 looks pretty fantastic also.

I shot this one last night, overcast, about the end of legal shooting, at 6 yards from my tree stand. No issues. I'd say there was more than a dozen howling around me at different locations. The bastards are demolishing my apples and have most of the deer run off. I have pics of up to 6 at a time in the daylight. Just sucks carrying the suckers over half mile back. For a deer, I get the ATV...

I currently have a swarovski Z3 4-12x50 on my 223. Lightweight, lots of magnification and also had the BRH reticle. What more could a guy want?

A simple fixed 4 power is often overlooked. I hunt in wood lots and field edges mostly. That said I have 6-24x44 on my 25/06. Rarely ever do I go over 10 power. I put a Bushnell legend ultra hd 3-9x50 on my 300 and love it

Let the terrain and hunting style dictate
