Prefered "Woods Loafing" Rifle

One of my ramblin rifles - 35Rem Marlin Marauder with 16" barrel is Hand-dee.

That's a sweetheart - I've been looking for one of those for years and never came across one in nice shape when I had any spare jingle in my jeans...

For me it's my Savage 219 in 30-30, soon to be wearing a period-correct, vintage 4x Leupold "mountineer" scope (man I had to be F A S T on the EE to snag that one) and my antique S&W DA in 44 Russian. Both with cast bullets. The 219 won't win any beauty contests (some bubba ground off a previous scope mount) but I love its simplicity and clean lines.

Same as in my truck - .303 Jungle Carbine. Light, easy to carry. reliable, lots of rounds. mag fed etc etc

This question is like asking my wife what she is going to wear when we go out.. It requires trying different combinations depending on locale, time of year, weather and general mood. Perhaps I could try the "I have nothing to wear" routine as an excuse to buy another gun. "Honey, you cannot take an old 760 in 300 Savage on a day like this, I need something else"....

Your absolutely right!

i normally chose between my 8.5 grizzly 12 ga or my sks or my good old ross. ive got a old semi .22 i take sometimes as well. really been thinking of a mares leg in one brand or another

My intent is to get a BLR81 takedown in the next few months, but as always the caliber is undecided. Don't want to go too small or it's not applicable for hunting large game, and don't want to go too large or it's not applicable for hunting small game. Maybe trusty old 308, since I've got plenty of components for that.

Now that I've read all these, I have to admit that I don't really have a "favorite". My toss up is either my defender sxp 12ga or marlin 30-30 30AS. Bought a savage 22mag a little while ago so will probably use it quite a bit for plinking this summer. Can't pack them all at once so whatever I grab first will go. Hunting season is a totally different topic.

Marlin bolt 22 with 4x scope for short walks. Folding stock SKS or trusty 303 sporter for longer. Sometimes the Stevens 223 if I suspect there might be coyotes. Maybe the Winchester 37 16 ga if the partridge are plentiful. Aw dammit I can't decide......too bad I can't just take my handgun.

Outside of big game season, I always carry a .22. I have a huge amount of respect for .22's, and what they are truley capable of. Most do not! That's one thing my my dear departed paw always tought me. outside of that, I carry one of my 25/06's.

I am glad to see my Thread come back to life. I have traded my 1894 Marlin .44 for a .357 and recently aquired a really nice Rossi .22 Mag Pump gun. Excellent rifle with a diverse number of load available.

I carried a trap door .45-70 for a few months last year, aside from weight it was an excellent gun to have handy.
