Hey all,

Just wanted to get opinions on what length of "uppers" everyone here has on their boots, and why they have that preference. I'm looking at getting new boots, and can't decide on a length.

Myself, I have a pair of Salomon hiking boots and my army boots. The Salomons are ankle height, but I don't like them much cause you roll you ankle too easily. I also have my pair of army-issue boots, with 8" uppers. I prefer those, but even then I find that occasionally I am getting the bottoms of my pants wet if I'm trekking through wet grass or snow or the occasional marsh.

So that being said, I've been looking at viberg boots with a 12" upper, but wasn't sure if that would be too high or not. So thanks very much for your thoughts and opinions -Cameron

I have 8" boots.

For deer, I'm going through fields and that is usually good enough. If it's really wet I'll "blouse" my pants on the top of the boot.

For moose, If there is a lot of snow, I'll use gaiters over the boots to protect the pants

I love 8" hunting boots and knee high's as well. When it's relatively dry and colder I wear the 8" ones, when it early season and wet I wear the Irish Setter knee boots.

Really depends where and what you'll be using them for.

Sometimes, my 16" LeChameau's are not quite high enough ...

Eastern moose & deer hunting in moderate fall weather is a lot different
than early season dry-land, upland hunting in the 70's or 80's, clambering around the foothills in mid-fall, or a frozen stiff December Parklands/Boreal hunt.
