Preferred Bullet Puller - Collet or Kinetic?

Unless the bullets (and gun) are match grade, the little bit of scoring from the collet won't make a difference. If the necks are sealed too then you want the collet.

I've used both and each has their small issues. Kinetic pullers are cheap and work but sometimes mar the bullet nose even if the bottom of the puller is padded ( I used and old ear plug.) Collet pullers are faster and less messy but may slightly mar the bullet but my limited test show nor accuracy change out to 300m , so if I were you I'd get collet puller for volume use, if the bullets are very hard to remove setting them back in the case with your bullet seating die will usually help break them loose from any sealant or corrosion that may be present.

I've used both and the easiest by far is the collet. The kinetic are loud and take several hard hits with some ammo. Any marring of the bullet using a collet doesn't affect accuracy out to at least 200 yds. A good bench rest shooter may disagree but they don't load bullets with much neck tension anyway and can likely just pull it out by hand.

The more modern RCBS kinetic puller/hammer , at least now has a felt insert to prevent bullet nose damage unlike it's crude predecessor.....collets do mar the bullets.............Harold

Collet for rifle rounds and the hammer for pistols. I like the collet 'cause it's clean and does not scuff up the bullet, well, unless they're crimped and the tension wasn't enough for the first try.

I use both. Kinetic is best if you only want to pull one or two bullets because it doesn't require any setup. Collet is best if you are pulling bullets in quantity. Pull marks will not have any effect for this application.

You will likely have to seat the bullets a little deeper prior to pulling in order to break the seal at the case mouth.

I use the RCBS collet puller, and if I was to buy another it would be the Hornady version. The kinetic hasn't been used in years lol.

The only time the kinetic puller comes out at my bench is if I have to pull a Wadcutter seated flush with the case mouth.

Otherwise, the collet puller gets the nod. If you had to pull 20 rounds with plenty of neck tension with the kinetic unit, it becomes an odious chore.

+1

Have and use both. Collet when pulling down enough rounds to make it worthwhile. Kinetic when I'm getting seating depth sorted with dummy rounds or just have a few rounds to do.

A collet puller shouldn't leave any marks at all. If you can tell a bullet has been pulled except by the marks made from the case neck tension, may I suggest your collet is set up incorrectly.
