Wondering who can recommend a good Smith for a Tanfoglio Limited Custom. Had a local guy do a bit of work to it and it's worse now then it was before so now I'm looking to send it off to someone familiar with these guns.

^^ That would be ny pick too if I didn't do the work myself. Worse how?

Just went in to change the mag release, now the slide locks up when a mag is inserted, the trigger seems to sometimes work, sometimes not, and now the mags don't drop free they need to be pulled out by hand. So I just want to get this thing back to reliable operation.

Does the mag fall out on its own when you press the mag release when the slide is closed or still needs to be pulled out by hand?

Lock the slide back, look down into the magwell, press down the mag release, does part of mag release protrude into the magwell from the side closest to your finger ie. opposing side of the locking tab? If no, slowly insert a mag while depressing the mag release paying attention to the side of the of the mag release that has the locking tab. Does it rub against the side of the magazine? If so, the mag release could be holding up the mag from dropping free and you may need to remove some material from the mag release.

If the above is not the case, the second cause can be that your magazine base pads (if you're using extended base pads) aren't thick enough, allowing the mag to get pushed deeper into the magwell causing the very top of the magwell to catch the breach face of the slide. One way to test this, insert a mag into the magwell on an open slide. Push up on the magazine base pad and see if it pushes up on the breach face of the slide. You may need to push up on the magazine while pulling back the slide a hair bit more. I have this problem using Xtreme base pads on my Limited Custom.

With the trigger, sounds like you need to give some more "slack" in the trigger adjustment screw.
