I have been reloading .243 for a while, normally just 100 or 105 grain bullets and IMR 4350 has worked reasonably well. It has worked well for me in the 270 and 30'06 also, so it was convenient just having one rifle powder around.
I now have a bunch of lighter bullets around (from 55gr and up), and after reading some other threads about IMR 4350 being a slower burning powder and more suitable for larger bullets, I am looking for ideas for trying a different powder for the lighter bullets.
I see that Varget is common in most of the reloading manuals for the lighter bullets. Would this be a good choice, or are there better options? We shoot a Remington Model Seven and I just picked up a Savage 111 in .243.

Thanks in advance,
Gord

For sometime I have salvaged loads from various CGNers, and saved them to a file. Send me your email address and I will share what I have accumulated.
When I was looking for loads, Richard Lee's manual showed H414, one of the powders I had, with a high velocity for 105 grain bullets so that is where I started. I have never tried the extremely light bullets in my .243 but loaded some 75 grain bullets for a low recoil load for my grandson.

GIVE h414 OR IMR 4064 a look both give good results in my .243.imr4350 is the powder of choise for light bullets in the Lymans manual.

For 55gr (Nosler Ballistic Tip), BL(C)-2 has been working very well in my Ruger.

Other powders that would work for the lighter bullets are:

H4895, Win760, IMR4320, IMR4064, IMR3031

Good luck!

I took this load from the Sierra Manual which they claim to be the best accuracy load for the 107gr. Loaded 39.6 grains with 107gr Sierra Match King and CCI Bench Rest Match primers. Group at 100 yds. was .221"
