Preferred powder for 9mm. & .357

I am going to help a friend get started on handloading for a 9mm. (auto) and
.357 (revolver). I have a lot of experience loading for pistol but for handgun shilouette which meant heavy bullets and hot loads.

We need help selecting a powder and bullet weight. Any suggestions as to what would be optimum for both if you didn't want cycling issues with the 9mm. and wanted to keep the .357 on the soft side to start with. I'm not interested in specific loads (will use my manuals for that) just powder /bullet combos that work well. Thanks.

Heaven forbid, but if I had to chose one powder for both, most likely I'd go with Unique.

I use Tightgroup for both with AIM 9mm an AIM .357 bullets.........

Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear. I'm not looking for one powder for both (although it would be nice if it worked that way) but the best choice for each caliber.

Whew, that's better. When I was loading for the 9mm, Unique was one of my main choices. Flexible for light and heavier loads in handgun calibers in addition to the 9.

For the 357 Mag, for heavy loads, 2400 (Elmer). For light loads, Bullseye or once again, good old Unique.

Both Titegroup & Unique will be very good for both calibers.

Another good choice for both is W231.

another vote for Titegroup.
I load 4.2gr for 9mm 124gr FMJ RN and 6gr for 158gr CMJ RN (357mag).
With the 9mm there's no problem but the large 357 case lends itself to double loading...
