Prelim Range Report - Stag Arms 3R - "Knock Off" Scope

This was my best 5 round grouping. Just leaning off a picnic table at 100 yards. This is with Winchester 62 grain. I think I need to spend a few dollars and get some match grade ammo until I can start reloading.

The scope is a 6-24X44 Fitco I picked up off the EE with Weaver rings and a Hammer SM15R riser.

Throw out the stray, and it's a one inch group.

An AR-15 with that scope should hold a tighter group, no?

All relative to how big that center circle is , whats the diameter?

I see a problem with mounting the scope on both the float tube and the receiver. Unless the top rail was one continuous unit, I'd think that it will contribute to loss of zero.

I head there shouldn't be any rpoblem with that setup as long as the rifle is bagged and is not using a bi-pod. I can seee how the bi-pod could pull it out of whack tho. I was hoping the raiser would mitigate any issues. Maybe I'll slide the rings back so it's reciever mounted only, but I don't know if I will have the room. Thanks for the info!

FOr sure, I'm no sniper , but I shot enough yesterday to notice one wild round out of every 6-7 (average). Also it definately needs triiger work or a two stage trigger. I found myself fighting it yesterday. Then again it's combat trigger set up, so I can't blame the rifle.

It should, and it will. I think kirill is right on the mounting issue, and like fed007 says, I need to to work on my technique, and I really have to work on my technique (breathing etc). Then of course, I will also need to work on my technique!

I am hoping to get to Listowel so I will be practicing allot and trying to get this group tighter. I probably should change the title to "Preliminary Range Report"

The target is on a 8.5X11 A4 paper, so the black circle is 5 inches, and the white circle is 2 inches.

Just spoke with Scott Samson and inquired about this comment. His take, the extended free float rail is designed for mounting optics, and the setup as pictured is fine and common.

I think that near an inch, without sandbags/rest, is fine shooting. Some load development and or a better rest will tighten that up a touch. Curious to see how the 55gn shoot.

Really? I remember reading Mark LaRue's post on AR15 which did not recommend straddling a scope mount across the receiver and the float tube.

That is Marks OPINION.

I've seen Dave Lutz (VP MIL OPS @ KAC) straddle a FF RAS and have repeatable zero even whenr removing the scope between 10 rd groups.
