This is an attempt to bring a possible 5 powder choices down to 1 or 2 then OCW/Mystic method for load development of an accuracy round for 300yds +. ( Being truthful, aiming for repeatable accuracy 300yds+ is where I’m at, at this point.)

Does anybody conduct “preliminary” testing regarding powder/primer combinations at shorter distances to quickly eliminate combinations not worth looking at. If yes what have you done?

Inversely, if what I am asking is flawed conceptually and full tests are the only way to determine then please share.

I realize that there may be suggestions of recipes and combinations to try but at this point the aim is to have the results do the steering.

Regards all,
Ronr

History: OCW method has been successful here, and so has Mystic’s method but I’ve found I’ve had to shoot higher round quantities to satisfy the findings. I certainly want to prevent X * 5 powder and components if possible.

Givens
- 7-08 Savage bolt action – “nothing special” model
- 150gr SMK
- Lapua cases
- Primers CCI 200 and 250, Federal 210

Other notes
- This summer will be my 4th yr reloading
- Neck turned cases and recently got into annealing
- Recently received a magnetospeed but haven’t been able to try it out yet…talk about frustration…
- Some may question why go through the effort of chasing accuracy for a rig like this...that's ok...it's because I want to learn some more and I want to see how far I can go.;) This rifle has surprised me before.
