So, with hunting season just around the corner, I have noticed that activity in this forum has started to pick up again.

Thus, as what happens every year in this forum during hunting season, various "heated arguments" erupt. The usual topics are regarding shot placement, caliber used, amount of game taken and hunting style.

Please keep in mind when posting and responding, that we are all unique in everything we do and that nobody is perfect. With this being said, let's try to keep the fights and flames to a minimum this year.

Have a good season in 2011.

Are you kidding ! Thats half the fun in all of this.

I'll start :

Two weeks ago I shot spike bull elk at 650 yards. I was using my 30 30 Remlin with open sights. The sight picture was a bit fuzzy as I was driving all through the brush in my Hummer and was drinking some Jack Daniels.

I hit it in the guts ( I love electric rifle rests ) so it walked for at least half a mile before it lay down in the middle of a local petting zoo. I finished it off with my 460 weatherby mag. Good thing I was using nosler partitions so I got enough penetration. ( No more ballistic tips for me ) However, too much of the meat was spoiled so I just threw it in some brush.

I came back the next week to where I had thrown the carcass with my AR hoping for some yote action. Instead there was a sow with cubs over the carcass so I thought I would use my bow. I only shoot a 30 lb pull because of an old shoulder injury. I hit the big one but it ran off. After being on the blood trail for a good 15 minutes I gave up. After all it was a solid effort for trying to retrieve wounded game.

Let the flames begin:D

P.S. Sarcasm mode set on high

The only big issue I have ever seen in the hunting section is when either someone talks about shooting FERAL cats...they basically get called everything bad under the sun and seems like death threats are no far behind!!! Some people just really like cats eh? And second...shooting grouse on the ground vs on the wing...some pople think your trash apperently if you shoot them in the ground.

Overall tho I enjoy the hunting section!!!

I love feral cats man. No other better target in the world. They kill for fun anything and everything and tease my hounds thus they die on my farm by the authority of my 25-06 or 12ga. And about grouse here in southern ontario I've never seen one on the ground they're like missiles and up north other then shooting right under them I don't know how to make them fly

You sir have reached a new low.

The style in which you advocate is horrendous, I am offended to no end.

Any self respecting moral hunter knows that Jim Beam is the choice when driving through the bush!!!! :p

I'm calling bull####. How could you even see a spike bull at 650yards in the brush. I think you just made that part up.......

Sure you can see. If you use your infrared Zeiss motion detecting 70X spotting scope. And we all know that a 30 30 is a great brush gun. No problem shooting through a few hundred yards of brush.

As a new hunter I enjoy his section. I learn many good things that I'm sure will help with my success.

I didn't realize that Bourbon and/or Whiskey played such an important role. I will of course adopt this technique. Perhaps someone can recommend a magic amount that works best for 'pushing the bush' or 'sitting in a stand'.

About a week to wait here in Ontario for the results of the draw. Anyone wish to wager a small sum on whether a first time applicant will get a moose tag? :):(

Sitting in a stand require Cherry whiskey , small sips over a long period of time. You don't wanna get to sleepy.

As for pushing bush.Shot gun beer followed by Crown Royal shooters, maximum effect is achieved this way which allows a consistent stumbling motion which aides in the creation of noise as you walk allowing you to wake even the most patient bucks and get them moving.

First aid tip: When consuming hunting fuel ( AKA cherry whiskey et. al. ) early in the morning a condition known as the Whiskey squirts can hit you. Be sure to bring plenty of Arse wipe. This can be put to use.

1) Use the wind to your advantage. This sets up a " Scent push" that will drive all game into the open.

2) The paper can be used as a way to find the way back to the vehicle.

And don't leave empties in the bush. Thats just rude.

i thin we should have a drum circle followed by a group hug too.

then we should braid each other's hair and write poems about how much we love our fellow hunters

even if they are obese treestand bending, fawn blasting, timed feeder, bait pile "hunters"

let the games begin! flame on! ;)

I bring my nagging mother inlaw that never shuts-up.shes my bear defense as I have never seen a bear in the bush while using this method.I don,t drink liquor so I bring Lite-beer with me { easier to carry}and test out sight evey half-hour.you never know when a soundshot will happen

But why didn't you use the 460 Weatherby to start with? An accomplished hunter knows the 30/30 is a varmit round.

What method do you use for transporting the cherry wiskey?!?! I found that filling a camel back gives me enough for a 1 day hunt. then you don't have to worry about empties or bottles rattling!

But, but, but, but I'm perfect.:D

I think I'm skipping the hunting section this year, I'm starting to feel like such a loser. I've been shooting deer with a .270 win....... how have I been able to choke down all that savory venison knowing that I killed bambi with such an underpowered cartridge with so little bullet selection.

Well, there's your problem! If you used a .338 WIZZRUM MegaShortMag like a REAL man, you'd love the hunting section!
