Prepayment or not for IPSC Matches, split from Omens thread

I'm sure Omen doesn't want to be responsible for collecting fees from people that have no showed from a match. I'm also pretty sure that IPSC Ontario/BC/Alberta/TimbukWherever doesn't want to be responsible for collecting additional fees from a member.

The added administration of a membership coordinator for a section having to keep track of who needs to have additional fees collected is a royal pain in the ass. It's all well and good to say "The section needs to collect the outstanding moneys", but you're proposing more work for someone else, and I'm sure they really appreciate that.

It should not be too hard to automate it if sections decide to actually do something like that. But it seem like that decision is unlikely going to happen for various reasons, look at the last Quigley's post...

It makes about as much sense as Photo Radar...but modified so that you don't get your speeding tickets untill the end of the year. You wouldn't slow down one bit.

All this would accomplish is cutting into our membership numbers. My guess is the majority of people we "fine" would quckly tell us to "f**k Off" and go try another action sport.

It's prepayment or deal with it.

This entire concept of keeping lists and handing on fines makes me want to throw up.

You guys are starting to sound like a bunch of socialists

I'll go modify the membership renewal form...

Membership will now be subject to:

Gst
Pst, and
IPSCst

Power to the party

Oh and Rob...thanks for starting this thread. Remind me to kick you in the nuts when I see you in Montreal next month :D

So, Quigley, while you are still a section director, why don't you show us some constructive spirit, instead of your usual idiotic cynicism and decide which one it is going to be? A prepayment is the way to go or you are going to leave the next section director to deal with this issue?

I agree with Quigley on this.
You would lose members and still be out the money.

As a MD , I may try the pre-payment this year as one match I had over 15 cancellations overnight from the Friday until the Saturday. Mind you, I did get home a lot earlier than normal so there are benefits to no shows!

In case it's not completley obvious...it's not the Board's (or the SC's) business. It's up to the Clubs and the MD's to decide how and when they will collect their money...

Is that about clear enough for you?

...and FYI...I'm not being cynical...I'm being sarcastic.

+1

I know how you feel. :bangHead:

maka

you still haven't said who is going to track all of these no shows? sure someone could write a program that the MD's could use to upload the information to a Central office, but once there someone still has to do the work of keeping track of it. whiter it is using another piece of software to move everything into another file so that at the end of the year a invoice could be produced (of course how would you settle a dispute from 6 months ago where the person says he let the MD now ahead of time) and sent to the person who may or may not pay it? (i think Quigley would be right on this one as to what it would do to membership renewals.)

Prepayment is just so much easier, from not having to handle money at the match to reconciling the books after a match. i have done it both ways and believe me prepayment was a hell of a lot simpler.

Since there is so much discussions about the "rules" what rules are we actually speaking about?
Could someone post one that states "you can't do that."

There's nothing in the rule book (Section 10) to allow DQ'ing someone for something that happens outside the match proper (although we certainly tested the limits of that this year is Halifax) ie...you can't be DQ'd for not showing up.
