Prescribed antiques - How low a profile to keep?

Sorry, but I didn't hear any yelling.
My two bits was to just let folks know that the situation you may think of as inconcievable now, may only be a matter of time or geography before it becomes your reality.
I can assure you all that my experience was so sureal to me and so unexpected, I cannot beleive it happened to this day. And yet I know it did.
We, from all segments of the sport and society in general, need to pull together to get this crap aditude toward gun owners changed to a more positive one.
In the meantime, IMHO, we need to play it smart by being very aware of our actions in tune with our circumstance.

LOL hey look at that, I'm a big mouth to! LOL

^ You're absolutely right. Taking responible actions is out duty in order to preserve whatever good name we have left out there. Sometimes the line between "legal" and "socially acceptable" is very fine... and unfortunately we have to take both into account these days. I'm not saying not to exercise whatever rights we have left, but to be doing it in a smart way.

Also, from now on, your new Wild West-style nickname is "BigMouth Pete". Sounds like some sort of a gunslinger, haha...

:D

Well for the first time in years we have allowed the police to use are Range I took the opportunity to explain antique hand gun regs .also to point out the when transporting a non-restricted long gun to the range or anywhere it does not need to be encased or trigger locked as a few members had some trouble in this area .They have since brought in a specialist in firearms law to give them a course in this area. We also had the RCMP use are range to qualify last year I also used this again to show them all some antique hand guns and there antique status letters they had no Idea there was anything like that out there and now they do .As it would be the local RCMP that would find me out in the field with A Antique I thought it best to get to know them. That being said we are a long way from Ontario Southern Alberta to be more exact. So if you ever get a chance to have a chat with a Police man introduce him if you can to antiques

I've done the same with a number of members of the OPP and MNR. Actually had a kid in our hunting party stopped by MNR and OPP on the first week of the deer hunt. He was hunting a half mile away from the rest of the group and carrying my 43 mauser. He has a hunter safety course but no firearms license. They asked him to show all his licenses and take the gun out of his gunsock. They had a quick look at the gun and ammo, he offered to show them the antique letter but they said it wasn't an issue and have a good hunt. A little education (I had talked to the CO about antiques on several occasions before) and no problems....
