Presses, Redding or RCBS?

Well after 16 yrs of solid use the linkage buckle on my Lee Challenger press broke again. I had it welded (silver soldered) already and now the opposite side cracked.
I can attempt to have it mended but would like your opinion on the Redding Big Boss 2 or RCBS Rock Supreme as an upgrade.
Who is the best supplier.
 
Redding and RCBS used to be owned by the same company. Might still be. Quality is the same. I think Redding is a bit less expensive.
I've had a Redding press for 40 some years with zero issues of any kind.
Never have liked Lee kit. And their warrantee sucks. If you had bought RCBS, you'd be sending the press back to 'em for replacement with a phone call. No questions asked.
Silver soldering is not welding. No where near as strong.

Once again you are spouting crap. You are so close to being 100% wrong on most of your statements that I think you are purposely trying to mislead people.

While this time you are just showing ignorance a lot of your suggestions and advice are downright dangerous and will eventually lead to someone being injured or killed.

Why you haven't been banned is a question a lot of members here are asking.


For what it's worth RCBS, Inc. was founded by Fred Huntington in 1943 in California while Redding started business in 1946 in New York State.

Either will serve you well for years. I have a few RCBS presses and have never found fault with any of them. The Redding products are just as nice and in the current offerings may be slightly better finished than RCBS. As mentioned the Forster CoAx is well worth a look but are hard to find these days.

The point got accross though right. The fact that the two metal cast alloy or what have you parts were fuzed together by a means that seemed to have worked thus far.

As for my use of Lee kit, Its what was affordable at the time in 1998 when i had an interest in reloading and found no other equally affordable reloading equipment at Wholesale Sports that a soldier could afford.
Now after purchasing over the years some RCBS equipment I see the quality and good warranty, but now Redding seems to be gaining popularity as I honestly never heard of them before.
Both Redding and RCBS share the same qualities and or looks. Same manufacture perhaps??

RCBS all the way. The non BS cross border warranty is a reloaders dream come true.

Anytime I've asked for a part they ship it all free of charge to me in Canada with no questions asked, no proof of purchase and no pics of the broken part. Fantastic company.
 
Can't go wrong with an RCBS Rock Chucker. Ive have mine for about 20 years and it's still going strong.

I bought three Forster Co-Ax presses last year... and they are getting all the use now. The quick change die system is great... as is the universal shell holder.
 
take pictures and call lee, i'd bet they send new parts free of charge.

one question (assuming the metal wasn't defective from the factory) what are you doing that it's broken twice?
 
You said you have had excellent results with the lee challenger. I have the LEE CLASSIC CAST press and absolutly love it. I would not trade it for an RCBS straight across, my most favorite part being the primer dispensing through the ram.

This quality feature is only available to my knowledge on the Redding Big Boss or the Forster CoAx.

Of the two you mentioned, I would absolutly go for the redding

from the threads i've seen if it's a broken part like they, they typically will. then smaller stuff that cost's a buck or 2 they don't want it. regardless, it doesn't cost anything to ask.
 
I'll second the Lee Classic Cast. It's a reasonably tough press, designed for up to 50BMG. (but not super HD 50BMG loading/swaging)

If you want the very best press? Forster Co-Ax

Another press to consider is the Lee Classic Cast.
I bought mine for the sole purpose of resizing and loading the 50 BMG cartridge which it does admirably.
Of the five presses on my bench the cast Lee does the most work and its also very clean to use.
