pressing brass

As my current hunt for .455 Mk2 is not looking good I figure I should focus on making my own. I hate to be dependent on availability.
I have made a die to press the rims of 5 cases at a time of either 45 auto rim or 45 colt in my 20 ton press to thin them. Then just trim to length.

Is any body else here doing this?
Is there another Brass that works better?
If so what is the Brass that works?

Swaging & trimming the rims may very well work although I don't know if the rims will be very concentric. I made 455 cases simply by thinning the rims of 45 Auto Rim cases in a mini lathe. If you go this route remember to thin the rims from the front. If you take material off the rear of the case head it will make the primer pocket too shallow & the primers will sit too high. Takes a couple of minutes to do each case but the 455 is a low pressure round so cases should last a long time.

I just cut down 45 Long Colt, it works well in my Webly.

Hey Bear do the slightly smaller rims of the colt brass still get picked up by the ejector when opening?

That's a lot of trimming but if it works then go for it. The 45 Colt rims seem pretty thick but if they don't rub the backplate and the extractor grabs them this is likely the easiest way to go. i went with the 45 auto rim cases to avoid case trimming and because I had a lathe to do the work.
