I refinished the stock on my sks. I've very, very pleased with the way it turned out. I know some think a military type rifle shouldn't really have a high gloss finish, but it's just an sks so what the heck. I didn't spend a lot of time fixing the dents and scratches so there are a few little flaws in the wood. It's pretty minor though. The paint went on really nice and is basically flawless.

I used top quality house of kolor urethane paint. This is the paint used on all the expensive hot rods and motorcycles. It is as good as paint gets but it is very expensive. The colour is rootbeer candy with clear on top. The candy paint is real nice because it gives it a really deep colour but the wood grain still comes through. With the clear it is a really deep gloss that looks awesome in the sun. This stock was done in rootbeer for the natural wood look.

Hey not bad at all.Nice job:)
Good practice for another rifle that realy deserves it as to the sks that gets thrown everywhere.Mine would not last a day after the abuse I put it through:D

Dang, that's purdy! Did the paint cost more than that Norc? :p
I need to refinish mine since the previous owner painted the top wood piece thingy (whatever it's called) flat black to "match" the butt-ugly plastic Dragunov-style stock he put it in. Thankfully he sent me the original stock.

Now you need to coat the metal with one of those funky new re-blueing kits and make it deep blue, purple or gold or something. Or at least park the metal if you want it to match your awesome stock.

Yeah, it was just the normal chinese chu wood from lever.

To buy a liter of paint with the catalyst and reducer it does cost about as much as the whole gun. Fortunately, it doesn't take a lot of paint to do a stock so I have plenty leftover.

screw blueing! time to silver or gold plate that bad boy. that paint color suprisingly looks pretty darn good on that sks, what gun are you practicing for?

Now ya done it ! It was just an everyday Chicom SKS happy to be used for a door stop or wheel chock ,burpin out bullets without flaw or hic-cup. Betcha it will not shoot anything but handloads using Lapua Brass and Match Bullets.
You took a sow's ear and turned into a silk purse.........well sorta!

Paint job looks great now when are ya doin the gold pate thing to the metalwork?

haha, yeah, I don't think I'll be gold plating it. The gun is still intended to be a fun shooter. I plan on getting the barrel so hot gold or silver would turn funny colours.
I'm not too worried about scratching it. If I do it'll polish out if I care enough. It is still an sks.
