Okay, just played with a PRI Gasbuster.... feels great, sturdy, slick, should get one....

So what is the difference between the PRI Gasbuster Charging handle and the PRI Military Big Latch charging handle found on the SPR series ?

Me thinks that they are the same thing, eh?

Enlighten me you black rifle lovers !

Barney

The Gasbuster features the "big latch" in addition to a larger "T" handle which has a channel underneath that redirects the gasses away from the shooters face. It is a mandatory item when used with suppressors and a minor luxury for us non professional dudes.

Hungry, the Gas buster has the large handle and big latch, the big latch in itself can be installed on any charging handle.

The gas buster is more than just the latch, the handle has a larger surface and blocks of gas coming at your face fron the charge handle gaps.

Furet:

Way cool... That explains it all ! Thanks a whole bunch.

BTW, you missed a great Tac Carbine match AND the funniest Night Shoot I ever participated in. Read my post on the night shoot at 3W.Milcun.com and OSA's tac carbine match. yuk yuk yuk

Thanks for the great explanation on the PRI Gasbuster and big latch....

Kevin:

I have been noticing a light and gentle puff of gas each shot and I'm starting to realize that our eyes can become quite vulnerable.

Then once I felt Furet's PRI Gasbuster handle in Connaught at a CQB match, I thought, "I gotta get me one of these." And not just for the LCV (look cool value), but more for the "#### the rifle with left hand value", like we used to with the FNC1A1. I just could not get over the leverage I had with my left index finger on the left side latch. My existing factory charging handle just feels too flimsy now, even if has served me well for years. Confidence factor in clearing jams (blown primer at yesterday's CQB match) was raised using PRI charging handle. Yeeeha.

Cheers,
Barney

Barney,

you hit the nail on the head here. I use it for cocking also. I have fired an "over lubricated" AR once and after shooting I was wondering what the smear on my shooting glasses was...turnedout to be lube that was being vapourized and blown back therough the charging handle. Needless to say I wear shooting glasses all the time and the PRI handle would haveminimized the spray back. USMC03 from LF has a nice mod also that can be added to the system that is very cheap and works also.

I haven't done this myself yet but it seems to be a workable solution.

Barney and Mark +1

These days most righties #### with the left hand (right hand never leaves the pistol grip.)

The "lesser" charging handles will bend and bind with the torque

Now if only Badger and PRI could team up to produce an Ambi-Gasbuster like this:
BadgerAmbi-charginghandle.jpg

with a weiner latch on both sides and the over sized back end.

How much of a difference do these bigger latches and handles make from a safety perspective? Does it really eliminate most oil vapour in your face? Or just cuts it down abit?

I've got one, I'd say it cuts it down pretty much to nil -but I'm not shooting full auto with a supressor on...

The handle is over sized and there is a cut on the bottom that helps redirect what does come back. I think a cross with the silcone and a gas-buster will do the best. The PRI handle does very well on it's own though.

what do you think is the best to get then? Up until reading this I always sort of read negative things of charging handles with Tac handles..them bending and stuff...

Should I get a new handle? Or just a new gas buster?

Get a complete PRI charging handle with the Weiner latch. You will be happy with one of those I bet. The gas buster is the charging handle itself. The weiner latch just makes it easier to grab.
