Hey all,

What is one of these in good condition worth these days? Can't find anything offered up on the EE to used as a reference point.

The one I'm interested in is in good condition and fired off two mags of thunderbolts without a hitch. Reasonably good trigger and grouping.

Thanks,

M

You haven't said if it was the field or target model. Ballpark of 250 in the condition described. IMHO the 422, is an excellent pistol.

Field = fixed rear sights with black plastic grips, .131” blade serrated front sight.

Target = adjustable rear sights with checkered walnut grips with S&W medallions, .125” serrated blade front sight.

I've owned about 7 of these in the past. I still own 2 (both target versions in 4.5" and 6" barrels) .
The difference between field and target versions are: Field has black plastic grips and fixed sights. The Target versions have walnut grips with a medallion inset in them and narrower front sight/adjustable rear sights. That is the only differences.
If it is the field version , I'd say $350 with one mag. For a target , I'd pay $400+. The mags are like hens teeth. I have 4 and it's taken me 12 years to get them....beware if you find online mags. I've ordered the wrong mags mistakenly because the ad said "fits model 41,2206,622,422" The mag catch is slightly different on the model 41 and will not engage 422 mags. They look the same but are slightly different enough to not work without filing. Don't worry if it is a field version, I was plenty good with the fixed sights. There is no grip advantage to the walnut grips. They just look nicer. All of mine ran like a top, and are super easy to field strip and clean. I love the low barrel axis.....and the confused look people get when the pull the slide back and expect to see a chamber, and see flat metal. They always look at me as if to say " I think your gun is broken" LOL

Smith & Wesson makes part#: 190500000, which is the magazine for the 41,2206,622,422. I ordered 3, four years ago and they work perfectly. The only difference with my original magazine is the different design of the base plate. As a side note, my target model sports plastic grip that I purchase separately when I go to range.

As for the higher quote prices, I would not entertain them unless they were for the target model NIB. I guess it comes down to what people are willing to pay.

I've seen them show up and get sold reasonably quickly when listed at $350. I paid $325 about 7 years ago for my own and would be willing to shell out $350 for a nice condition one without any hesitation. If the adjustable sights is what makes it a "Target" model then that's what I've got. And a lot of the ones I've seen at this mid to high $300 range have been the adjustable sight models as well.

At $400 to $450 I'd have to be in the right "What the hell" mood and then I'd try to dicker it down. If they stayed at $450 I'd walk away. At $400 if I hadn't seen one for a while I might be tempted. But by that time it's getting pretty darn close to a new Buckmark, Ruger or one of the new Victory models.

I really love the super light aspect of this gun. Plus the low bore axis, accuracy, and reliability. I really cannot say it is picky with any kind of ammo. If I don't clean it for about 300 rounds , it starts to get sticky, but within 5 minutes it's cleaned and running great. It is one of the lightest handguns out there really. My daughter LOVES it. She is 10.

The Victory would be my choice when the dollars are close..

Some good advice. Those are a couple real nice pistols you have.

Any feel for what a reasonable price for a 2206 would be? They are a step up from a 622 are they not?

Thanks,

M

as far as i know the only difference is the 622 has wood grips and the 2206 has black plastic ones - both come in 4.5 and 6" and both come with or without target sites.

ive got both 422 and 622 and have had them since early 90's, great little 22's.
i just checked what i paid for mine and it was $243.33 back in Jan of 1994.
while they are fantastic guns i wouldn't pay more than $200 for one unless it was something you've always wanted for your collection.

here are my 2

Apparently 2206 has a SS frame while the 622 has an alloy frame. Should that fact command a significantly higher price over a 622?
