Price check and info needed on a Krag 30-40

22 inches was the original barrel length for the carbine. heavier bullets work the best, since they where throated for a 220 gr RN. with mine i can seat 150 gr just deep enough to grip it, close the bolt and it's still not touching the lands. plan on using it to build a classy looking 24 inch sporter, still in .30-40 of course.

Fist size! Is this common with the Krag?

I know my shooting with the 54MS wasn't very good but we were more just blasting off expensive ammo than anything. I don't expect the one ragged hole for ten shots but was thinking more like a two inch group.

Of course, you could just have small fists, but if that is indeed you inthe pic I would say those mitts are not very small. LOL

no thats not common, but mine has a lot of free bore and over 10 inches has been loped of the barrel. sights are kinda hard to see. and i haven't done a lot of load work up and group shooting, just plinking and noise making mostly. and that fist sized group was 10 shots

I know with my 30-40(full rifle) witht hat tiny little slid up peep sight and the front blade( you could scalp someone with it) we are putting reloads into about an inch at a hundred. It could do better if i spent time devoloping a load. I use the nosler 220 to try on get close to the original. Also i have bought a lot of the original ammo.

My long 30-40 rifle was as accurate as that too Carew. Noel, I had quite a collection of Krags but sold them all off but one Norwegian carbine a couple years ago. I had an original carbine and had a dealer pay me $500.00(NO QUESTIONS ASKED!) for it 2 years ago. It was a very original gun but the bore was slightly worn and dark. Intact, original 30/40 carbines are getting extremely scarce now. I also had one in .243 as well. It shot great but never would feed properly. That was a Norwegian rifle, rebarrelled if my memory serves me correct. You always had to play around with the next shell feeding from the mag to get it to feed. I absolutely love my little Norwegian artillery carbine. It's short, light and very accurate. Being 6.5X55 I guess I shouldn't expect anything less. Great caliber. Too bad that carbine was bubba'd. Keep looking, occasionally one shows up for sale.
