Price check? Colt 1911 WW2 manf.

Whats a nice, matching GI WWII Colt going for these days?

I thought about $600? Have they gone up?

In Canada..... all matching [slide numbered to frame, proper small parts], proper inspector marks [RS, WB or GHD inspected], original finish [not an arsenal refurb with a SA, AA or RIA stamp on the frame - usually seen on the right side dust cover forward and above the tigger guard bow] in VG+/exc condition you can probably get $1,000 - $1,200 for it easily.

Let's put it this way.... unless it had some significant, documented history/providence AND was all correct/matching/original exc condition it would be extremely difficult to get > $2K for it up here in the North..... ;) :D

1911 WW2 price?

Gunbroker.com is always a good place to see what people are paying for guns(at least in the US),there are a few WW2 1911's and they seem to be around the 900 to 1400 mark.I saw a WW1 1911 for 2200,but in quite pristine condition. As always, its a good idea to do some research before buying and its pretty much "buyer beware"

I don't find US prices a good guide for surplus USGI pistols or rifles though, they're not allowed to be reimported, so they're priced out of whack there, kinda analogous to stateside Norinco 1911/M14s.

Where's the pics dangertree! Planning on selling one or looking for one?

dangertree is playing it cagey and getting some interest up before revealing the prize I'll bet. When I lived in Newfoundland in the 50'-60's there were a lot of USGI 1911's around from US service men at the 2 US bases that were in NFLD at Argentia Naval base and also Fort Pepperill AFB.

US gun prices have nothing to do with Canadian gun prices . That would be like saying the price of gas in Saudi Arabia would compare to the price of gas in Canada

That's an exaggeration but Gunbroker is better for checking how a good example of a firearm should look. A better way to check selling prices is to ask here, check classifieds on US forums (Colt, S&W, Ruger etc.) and add a premium depending on Canadian availability. I can tell you I won't be paying over 4K for a WW1 1911 no matter how much BS it's wrapped up in!

A lot depends on condition and originality and what value it has to you. I've seen people pay way too much for something that is somewhat rare but is a must have. Myself included. Many people use the US as a starting point to determine value. In a lot of cases people ask too much but there are a lot of people with money that will pay for it. I just turned down a rare pistol based on originality and condition and what he was asking in terms of price. But I know someone would be happy to pay for it. It's all in the eye of the beholder and how much value it brings to you. Most of the time a M1911 in your safe is as good as money in the bank. It's always a good idea to ask other collectors what they think it's worth to get an unbiased and honest opinion. Just my thoughts.

Yeah I'd have to generally agree with NAA in post no. 5 where he says that the realistic value here is in the 1200 to 2000 range (from all of what I've seen over the years).

Good ones are hard to find (condition, finish, wear, functionality etc.) - but the gun doesn't have to be absolutely 'perfect' to be worth buying at these prices, for sure. Consider the history, the collectibility from a subjective view point.

It's a matter of supply and demand, and the Colts are the hardest to come by, and are also worth more. Seems that there is always a supply of lesser valued Rands and Ithacas kicking about.

In any event it's not like you really stand to lose money here - as long as the gun is 'good' enough.

Ithacas are rare. I've only seen one in two years on this website for sale and it was the frame only with a missmatched slide. Speaking of, I need an Ithaca frame.

Ithacas are relatively rare because only ~ 370,000 were produced for WWII service as opposed to just over ~ 1.5 million Colts and 1 million Remington-Rand 1911A1's. You've got that relatively rare Union Switch & Signal mfg 1911A-1 [only ~ 55,000 were produced]. The holy grail of WWII 1911A1's remains the Singer mfg copy, though, at only ~ 500 produced.
