am looking at perhaps getting a colt commander, what is a fair price for such a pistol used?

Well, there's this one on "sale" in the EE for $1,300

Poster claims it is a "Pachmire custom" whatever that is. Looks to me to be a standard Colt Combat Commander that someone has installed a Videcki trigger, Bomar rear site, drop-in beavertail & flared the ejection port. And installed a spankin' new set of Pachmayr wraparound grips on. Also, looks like a refinish to matte blue, as IIRC the Series 70 combat commanders didn't come from the factory that way. Personally, I'd want a few more details on it's "custom pedigree" before shelling out $1,300 for it.

That said, for a used Colt Combat commander [all steel frame] in .45ACP excellent condition, I'd likely pay ~$750 - $850 depending on what it was and what it came with. Maybe a tad more if it was in 9mm or .38 Super as they seem to be a scarcer beast up here.

750-850, i could go for that. 1300 is a lot, especially when you consider that new guns aren't much more.
