Price check for a No1 Mk5? (Not jungle carbine)

This' out of my depth; found a gun I'd like and don't know what it's worth. What's a refurbed No1 Mk5 worth?

Specs are:
Gun is almost original appearing condition.
Matching action and bolt/bbl etc
Correct rear sight, correct mag, correct cut-off, correct rear sight
Bluing is strong - light wear on edges but otherwise strong.
Bore is strong and sharp.

Wood is replaced - gun was formerly sportered. Repro wood is blonde, sharp and clean, nicely done; No stock disk.
Gun is missing the reinforcing band that mounts over the nose cap assembly.



That's about all I have at the moment - seems like a neat gun - I've always liked the No1 over the No4, but love the rear sight on the No4, so this could be fun :D

EDIT: this is not a jungle carbine. It's a 1922 trials gun like the one seen here:

Are you mad? My guess would be well over $1000. If $300 is all he wants, tell me where to send the emt! There is a strong lesson here relating to cutting up milsurps. Badger had one for sale & I remember the price being north of $4000 but I could be wrong.

North of $1000 for a restored No1 Mk5? Its matching and nice condition, but it's nonetheless restored. Im trying to establish a fair price on this one :p
 
A No.5 Mk.1 is a "Jungle Carbine." What you have is not a jungle carbine.

An all original jungle carbine (No. 5 Mk. 1) is anywhere from $450-850. No more than that unless its something exceptional.

A restored long rifle such as a Mk. 4 would be somewhere from $300-450. You can still buy full non refurbished rifles for under $500. All original.

You have a No. 1 Mk. 5, a trials rifle, worth a lot more than a normal restored Enfield. It was a trials gun, not many produced.

a jungle carbine is a No.5 Mk 1.
a No.1 Mk 5 is a very rare best from the 20's that looks like a cross between a No.1 and No.4. an "experimental transitional model" for lack of better description, i believe and made in rather small numbers. i dont much know about them other then that but have always liked the way they looked
 
Yes- for clarity, it's the 1922 trials gun- the receiver and metal are original, the wood is restored. I didn't actually know they existed until seeing this one.
 
We have a problem, gentlemen: The SMLE Mark V was produced in fairly small numbers, 2 main batches in 1922 and 1924. A FEW 1923 guns are reported.

Production commonly is accepted at about 22,000 units. How many survive today is just about anyone's guess. They have been spread all over the world; one even is documented being used in the Viet-Nam War.

This one is the Real Thing, but it has been restored with Mark III wood.

The Mark V should have a SECOND outside band, just aft of the Nose Cap.

Just sayin'.

Value? I can't possibly make a stab at it. More than my pension pays, that's for sure!

Notice that Smellie did not refer to it as a No1 MkV & only as a MkV SMLE, the MkV is not a No1.
The MkV was produced before the 1926 change in nomenclature & was only ever "provisionally approved" it was never "approved, announced or introduced in the List of Changes" so when the change came, it pretty much did not exist so never became the No1 MkV.

Going by the serial numbers, there appears to have been about 6500 in 1922, 2000 in 1923 & the balance in 1924

My apologies, I wasn't trying to oppose your statement - I was more surprised. Usually anything restored loses considerable value so hadn't expected people to be so excited about it :p I really like it because it's really unique and rare, but I also don't mind restored guns, whereas it seems most collectors shy away from them, so I have a hard time figuring out market value versus value to me.
I'm very much unsure of value, but from the sounds of it $1500 would be the steal of the century and closer to $2000 plus is more realistic? Sounds like there are a few of these that've sold for more than double that, so it's a pretty wide margin on a very rare gun :p I also understand that the 1922 and 1923 models are far rarer than the 1924 models.
 
Let's not get carried away with value. I purchased an excellent all original, all matching example from a knowledgable collector for just over $2000.00 last year. While I was looking for one I noted many for sale on "Gunbroker" in the US, mainly in more original condition than the gun in question, at prices that would allow you to import one for around $2000.00, all in. Personally I would value the gun at around $1000.00 tops.
