Found one sitting on the table of a gun show for $75, 99.9% blued but not parked.

Doesn't want to ruin the collectible value of my 100% Nork M305 now, and it group very well too. Just curious for the price?

:p

For $75, that would have been a no brainer....I would have paid and walked away a few tables away for fear the seller mistook it for the ol' batter garand bolt he was supposed to sell.

On the other hand, blued would mean refinished and you'd have to check the condition of it itself. A knackered bolt is just a paper weight souvenir.

Apparently, there were fake TRW bolts going around at some point. Hungry, Skullboy and GGFB would be the obvious best CGNers to know what to look for.

I was fighting with 3 other guys for the $1 1911 parts (hammers, triggers...some were stainless) and no one care about that $75 Blued TRW bolt...I thought it should be parked too. There were little wear on both sides but it was 99.9%...

Alright, my M305 can shoot without it:redface:

PS. Hopefully the seller isn't a CGN member!

A "Blued" TRW Bolt???? I'd be very skeptical............The original TRW finish is an almost black parkerising.

You would need to look at the bolt markings and check the codes and type of stamp used for the lettering/numbers to determine if it was a counterfit TRW bolt, or an incorrectly re-finished TRW bolt.

New, complete TRW bolts run in the $300.00 to $350.00 Cdn range.

New, stripped TRW bolts run in the $250.00 to $300.00 Cdn. range.

If it sounds to ggo to be true, it usually is too good to be true.........

SKBY.

I'll bet it doesn't have a dimple...

along with all other matching codes and marks.

Or it is serious knackered bolt that someone tried to refinish.

So I might as well pipe in here, as all have stated great price.......but as SKBY stated it could be too good to be true.

This thread might prompt me to post a sticky on parts conditions and quaility.
I'll take some pictures of some of the bad purchases that I've made and post when I have some time.

Looking for the proof dimple is a start, the condition of bolt face, firing pin hole and lug wear.

Here's another one......look at the condition of the roller lug .....I had one that wasn't great looking on the end......kind of rough. Well the roller would bang off within a 100 rounds. I used up about 4 of my replacemant rollers before turning it into a armourer tool. :bangHead:

If the FP hole is jagged or seems large......not good, if the bolt face has a burn ring wear it touches the primer......not bad, but if the ring has a lot of pitting......not good. The pitting and large FP hole are both reasons for the Armourer to toss the bolt.
Lugs.......this might be harder to tell how used the bolt is especially after it has been re-parked or blued......but with a well trained eye you at best might tell if it's f***ed....but I doubt you would have any way of eyeing the lock-up. Laz2000 did come to one of the tables I had set up at the yearly show in BC with digital calipers in hand....and knew what he was looking for.

So....boys........it comes down to.....knowing your stuff.....know your prices and know what to look for, otherwise you deserve this :slap:

I have seen many M14 parts in Canada still going for a song, I saw a barrel last year at show......looked like hell with no finish on it. I had my gauges in my pocket, it came in as .5 TE and 0 MW....ths thing was a steal at $75.

Many Canadian shooters don't know about the recent surge in popularity of the M14 type rifles. With Marstar bringing in loads of the M14s (M305) and the surge in the the M1A's in the US with the introduction of the Socom series and the high profile of the M14 in the war.

PS when is the yearly Coq show?
