Hey, so I am an Enfield guy and have now knowledge whatsoever of Mausers.

I was a my usual water hole looking at what was in the rack and he had a sported Mauser model 98. Date of Manufacture was 1939, at plant 243. Bolt was all matching, receiver and barrel matched, but the bolt and receiver didn't match. It also had the waffenamps intact. Barrel was dirt with a shootable bore. Someone had narrowed the stock and filled in the sling slot, and attached studs at both ends. He had $249 on the tag, but I bet I could work him down.

Should I be going back and seeing what I can do?

It sounds like a bolt mismatch that was sported. If the bore is good you could restore it, with a stock and bands. You can get, stock, bands and spring for $300, so for $550 you could have a nonrefurber mismatched 98. It would be worth it imo.

I won't say a 243 is rare, but not as common as others.

@tadam05 - it isn't D&T'd and I am probably looking for a shooter/project

So, I guess the first oppritunity I get, I'll get over there and try to pick it up.

Thanks everyone.
