Been researching my new hunting rifle purchase for a few months now. Went into a new store today to look at the wares and the guy has this on his used rack.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye in Stainless, black synthetic stock. 7MM Rem Mag.

Comes with rings and scope mounted and already sighted in (from previous owner, I know I shouldn't count on it, but it should be a better place to start and get my own zero than from scratch)

Rings are stainless also, and it has a Bushnell Elite 3200 mounted on it. Seems to be duplex, but I'm not sure, the eye relief was not very good the way it was setup.

Guy says the scope is worth $400, but I'm thinking maybe if it were new, and as far as my google-foo shows me, its a discontinued model that sells on ebay for 180 - 250 bucks.

He wants the whole package for $950. Would you guys pay this?

Just bought a M77 All-Weather .308 in camo synthetic with 2-7X32mm Elite 3200 RainGuard for $775... It arrived today. I have bought six M77 AW's in the past year, most between $6-700... With the scope, if the gun/scope are in top condition, I would say $850 is fair. I did over pay for a M77 AW ($900) in .358 Win... But only because I had been searching for a year and there was no telling when I would see one again, but it did cause me pain to do so...

You should note that M77's are $100 - $150 more in 2014 than they were in 2013... Most vendors are reflecting 2014 prices now... LeBaron's shut down their firearms website pages due to pricing conflicts (ask me how I know they have had conflicts...). They are great guns... I dropped most of mine into Boyd's stocks...

The 3200 3-9 were selling new for less than $250 before being discontinued, I have bought 3 Rugers and never paid more than $750 new, sounds like at least a $100 high to me.

All good info, thanks gents. It's what I had budgeted for myself to spend, except my original plan was a Vanguard S2, in .300 wby w/ a Vortex Viper. All new for that same price seems like a better investment for me.
