Hey guys. Before I go shoot this stuff......

I have 9-10 boxes of second generation (Brass case/black bullet) Ranger SXT's (Law Enforcement marked boxes), and I'm told these are somewhat of a collectors item. So I thought that before I go make holes in paper with them, maybe I should find out what they are realistcly worth (so I can sell 'em and buy more ammo! :) )


From what I gather, there were four different production runs of these things:

1. "Black Talons" (common)
2. Brass case/Black bullet SXT's (This is the rare one)
3. Nickel case/Black bullet SXT (common)
4. Nickel case/Copper bullet SXT (current production)

Thoughts?

I bought a couple boxes of the newer Winchester 9mm SXT (copper coloured bullet) in the brown box with the Sherrif's Star on it for $45.00 about a month ago.

Seems most companies call some of their JHP ammo "law enforcement."

I bought some Federal bonded JHP last week and the box said Law Enforcement.

I got some Winchester Ranger 115gr 9mm in the white and orange box and it says "Law enforcement. Not for civilian sales" or something to that effect.
 
They are easily worth $40-$50/box to someone. I payed $35 for a box of them a year or so ago.

I doubt you'll find someone who wants all 10, but you might find 5 people who want 2 each.

It isn't "black paint", it's called "Lubalox" and is still used on some of Winchester's products.

The black, "Lubalox" bullet is what makes them A) rare (at least in this configuration) and B) collectible to some people - hence more expensive.
 
Bass Pro calgary is selling their Winchester SXZ JHP coated with lubalux, brass case and black bullet.

9mm 50 in a box for $16.99 cad.

So the value price for your ammo is the same.

Yes it is a Lubalux coated bullet in the SXZ, but as far as I know, it is a different bullet. Different ballistics, different expansion ect.

Ultimatly, the are worth what some wants to pay for them. If they're only worth $5 to you, great. If they are worth $40 to me, fantastic.


Wrong Way, please update the thread after they have sold so that I can laugh in Rivetc's face.

LOL....I was allready PM'd with an offer if I decide to sell them.....50/box....feel free to start laughing :D

On that note, I have some 30/06 here, 165 TSX bullet, brass case. I'm assuming that because Walmart sells brass case/copper bullet 30/06 for 16.99/box, I can use that as a value? I guess I got ripped off ;)

So What?

Since I can only shoot it at the range , and only paper plinking,
their value at most should be 50% more than 9mm FMJ.

In Canada they are useless.

In the US , when it comes for Ammo for Self Defense, most people will not buy ammo that is more than 18 months old maximum.

So whatever is left (not sold) , shows up in Canada, and stores start asking for it MAXIMUM $$$.

Again, the value is not determined by the ammo's usefulness. I would bet that all MODERN ammo would out perform that stuff by a country mile. It's the collectability of it that makes it worth that much more.

I collect boxes of .45 Auto. As normal ammunition, I wouldn't bother buying/shooting hollowpoints due to the cost/rarity of it. As a collectible item (in my eyes), it is much more valuable.

If I could find a box of ORIGINAL Black Talon .45Auto, I'd be willing to pay $100. That's what it's worth to me.

P.S. - if anyone does have an original box of .45 Auto Black Talons that you want to part with, let me know.

I collect as well and have been looking for an original box of Black Talon 9mm, not to use, just to have.

There are a bunch on gunbroker, but obviously, they won't ship outside the USA.
