Ross Sporter
The 1910 Ross Sporter, if it is a true commercial one, should have a serial number stamped on the left side of the barrel, in the chamber area, just forward of the receiver. They are smaller stamps, only about 1/8 inch high.
One thing to watch for on Model 10 Ross Rifles is the bolt assembly. It is possible to assemble the bolt into the carrier wrong, and it will only engage 1/6 th. of the area when closed. This is dangerous, as it can allow the bolt to fly backwards and hit the shooter in the head.
There should be approximately one inch of space between the bolt carrier and the rear of the locking lugs on the bolt. Also, if you shine a small flashlight into the receiver when you close the bolt, you can see if the bolt fully engages and locks.
IF YOU HAVE ONLY 1/4 INCH SPACE BETWEEN THE BOLT HEAD AND THE CARRIER WHEN THE BOLT IS OPEN, THEN IT IT ASSEMBLED WRONG.
