I'm think of having the barrell of a .308 shortened. It will require cutting, a new crown and drilling/tapping to re-install the front sight. A smith that seems to have a good repution said it will cost at least $75, perhaps a bit more, depending on his time. Taxes on top, I'd imagine. My guess is that it might cost up to $100 all said and done. This price seems very reasonable to me, but since I'd never had such work done before, I justed wanted to run it past you experts. Thanks:)
 
I had my BRNO 602 .375 H&H chopped to 20", the front sight re-installed and had a barrel band installed. It came to $200.

He did a great job as it shoots great. See the group below, 270 gr factory ammo, express sights, 100 yards, front rest only without a sandbag (silly me).
