I was wondering what the average see-through scope mount and WW2 period standard issue "PU" scope for the SVT-40 goes for these days, and how hard they are to find in decedent condition.

Were many of these mounts and scopes made?

Can the scopes and mounts be added to any SVT-40 rifle, or was the sniper version a different assembly in any other way?

Thanks for the help.

Not sure about the price but only SVT with grooved received will accept the mount and also they have a notch cut on rear top cover for the mount. The groove for mounting scope were no longer made after 1942. All the SVT until 1942 have the side grooves but only the SVT sniper have the top rear notch. Its always possible to make a notch on top but there's few SVt sniper without scope floting around.

Does the SVT sniper exist in decent numbers in Canada? Any idea how many might be up here?

Also, anyone have any idea the price a full sniper setup would cost with rifle, mount and scope these days?

sarco has repro mounts they were $150 last year. you migh as well forget about a real one unless. one of the importers finds a long lost wearhouse . the original scopes are on ebay from time to time $400-600 I think. + rifle .

I paid $1000 for one recently. It was a ukranian refurb, original, with repro scope mount but original scope. Since the rifles themselves are worth about $500 without the scope, that means the scope and mount are about $500. In any case, it seems the scope and mount are worth more than the rifle in most cases.

Some good information here.

As stated you need the side groves on the reciever to slide the scope rail on and a notch on top of the reciever cover to lock the scope in place. PSmilitaria does sell some SVT's that were originally snipers (I own one).

Repro mounts are fairly common and are made fairly correct and cost about $250-500

Origianl Mounts are about $500-750 but are not common.

Repro scopes are not correct (too long) but make a nice sniper clone and cost $250-500

Origianl Scopes run in the $750-1000 mark.

SVT PU scopes and Nagant scopes are different diameters. If you get a repro make sure you get the mount and scope from the same supplier so they will mate properly. Several ebay sellers advertise their scopes as SVT and Nagant PU scopes but they will not fit in an SVT mount. They also make repro mounts that don't need to lock in, so you can use a standard SVT as a sniper.

All matching rifle, mount and scope, probably $1500-2500

Accumark makes a matching repro mount and scope for $600 and Numrich has some repro mounts and original scopes for about $800 but they won't sell scopes to Canada.
