Old model Ruger Single Six, mid 50's vintage. Black "plastic" grips. Blueing is good @ ~ 90%. Little bit of muzzle wear from being holstered. Don't know if I can get pictures, but I should be able to view it. What should I be looking for. I understand that this has the transfer bar update available to it. Do you guys believe it SHOULD be done, or leave it original. The pistol will no longer be carried loaded and therefore the safety issue is reduced.

If Ruger is still doing the up grade for free you might as well have it done. It will have to go to a Ruger warrantee shop though. You may want to contact them. They might be able to give you a better idea of its value too.

Ruger single six

I've got and had many of the early 3 screws, hence my name. It will all depend upon condition for pricing, usually $300-375 for a decent condition shooter. Lightweight versions or tri-colour version will bring a premium, as will the 4 and 5/8 inch barrel over the 5.5 and 6.5 inch barrels. None that I have or have sold have had the conversion - it's great for safety but if you know how to carry them with 5 beans in the wheel it isn't an issue. I've heard that you don't get the original parts back when the revolver is converted like they used to - in my opinion once they are converted they are no longer collectible. If you want the newer type "safer" action, sell the 3 screw to an good old boy and buy yourself a new model with the transfer bar. Just my opion of course - hey it's your gun.
