How would a custom .223 rig using a Savage action compare price wise to say a LRPV Savage?

Also I have seen builds using the Stevens action and I was wondering what the difference was between the stevens action and one from a LRPV ?

Im not looking for something real fancy, just something that will shoot good from benchrest and from a bipod and sand bag.

If you have suggestion on a good build I would like to hear them too.

Thanks

PS: I am going to start out shooting around 300yds and try to push out as far as I can.

Well the model 12 LRPV is around $1250.

The stevens can be had for $350. Add about $40 for bedding and strengthening the stock, lets say $400. With handloads my 223 stevens shoots 1/2 MOA at 100 yards and as I found out for the first time yesterday, it shoots MOA at 300 yards. But we can do better.

Customizing:
If your happy to live with the original stock, as I am, add $400 for a barrel and $150 for a timney trigger.

$950 for a semi custom home built gun. Pretty neat in my oppinion.

Good luck.

If you can find them, 12BVSS in 223 9 twist. Have it bedded, stuff some quality match bullets pushed by Varget and CCI 400 or 450 primers, and you should be in the 1/2 to 3/4MOA range.

A very nice stock shape for bench shooting and rides the bags or bipod well. They were $700 to 800 and is the least expensive way to get a nice shooter.

When you want better accuracy, just spin on a quality barrel from Shilen or McGowen and you can go compete in F T/R.

If your goal is to change out most of the rifle right away, the Stevens is THE way to go. New barrel, trigger and stock. Similar money to the LRPV and will outshoot it.
