I have a question. Why if the Canadian dollar is near equal or greater than the US dollar, everything imported from the states costs so much more in Canada. An example, the CZ Kadet 22, not the conversion kit, I've seen on american sites costing between $650 and $700 dollars US, suddenly costs $975.00 in canada. Does it really cost that much to import these handguns, or are they being marked up to ureasonable prices by Canadian dealers? Just to be clear, this is not a rant. I would just like to understand the price differnces. Could someone break it down for me?

Costs alot of time and money to bring stuff from the states due to the states required paperwork that you have to fill out for exporting guns ect from them.

STUPID yes.

When governments stick their hands into people's pockets, its them that lose out in the end.

I think it's a combination of both, part the trouble to bring up and cost involed and some dealers charging less then before when exchange rate was much greater apart, but not as low as they can, to find middle ground for a decent buck...
I've been looking around for pricing on two guns recently and found same gun with a $250 variance between canadian dealers. Granted, some have less overhead and maybe can afford to make smaller profit and it is a business to feed their families.... but still quite a variance for a gun a bit over $1,000.00
Just my observation.

I find some of the smaller accessories have higher mark up then the guns themsleves..
STI guns, I noticed cost less now then earlier... they have come down some..

Some guns are cheaper in Canada

If that's the case, then there is something wrong. How can someithing that has a certain price in the states, be either less, equal, or more in Canada. I just don't get it.

Not all guns originate from the US you know. But don't ask me for specific examples...I just know that I've been to enough gun shops in the US to know that the deals aren't always what you think.

There are some pretty pricey retailers south of the border just the same as there is here.

Usually Several extra layers of middle men in Canadian Gun sales, they all take a cut.
Higher Transportation costs, higher taxes, way lower volume , US manufacturers screw Canadians, and other export places so that they can sell cheap to at home.

I see, so it's strictly a matter of import costs, and too many hands in the pie.

You could always take a trip to Buffalo Gun Center...they only charge $100 + 5% to do all the paperwork.

But you still gotta pay the tax at the border....so its not always cheaper.

I've looked into it a couple times and never really followed through it

I think I'll be looking into buying directely from the States. Like you said though, how much does one really save by doing so. Is there anyone that has experience buying directly from the states, and bringing it over?

Well not exactly...Buffalo gun center does it for you for $100 if you buy from them....prophet river will do it for you from other places in the US for $250 or so(and they do a great job).........So you just have to do the math....never mind, give me the figures and I'll do the math for you.

A recent purchase of a US revolver showed a factory price which I assume is a suggested price of US $ 949.00.
Same piece in an Eastern Canadian gun shop was $ 930.00 Can.
................ in a Western Canadian gunshop..... $ 842.00....

It pays to shop around.

I didn't know you can actually buy from there ? so, if one goes thru the hoopla to do the paperwork, store there will help and have it registered to you here, etc...
but after all that and paying any duty and hs.t, the cost is like 10% savings, probably not worth it.. just buy here, save hassle and give some business to our locals...
that said, I've ordered parts from U.S. cause saved much more than 10%.... like 25% +

Shop around. You will be surprised that you do not have to go south to find good deals. The only advantage down south is the better selection. Otherwise, stay local.

I have brought a few up this year using Clay.
Great service. One fee. But the import will take a few months.

The key is selection.

I used only gunbroker (there are others).
I spent very little time, don't have much time or patience for shopping...

I scored a matched pair of unfired ruger old armys, with consecutive serial numbers.

Also a once fired freedom arms model 83 in .454 casull, 6" barrel, with wood grips, green fiber front site, sling and holster. Exactly how I would have ordered it.
And for 1/2 the price of new, plus fees, just over $200.

Point being it may take 10 years to find these babys on the EE or your local store...

Now that I have it straight, and I don't think I will be shopping in the States, does anyone know where I can get the afrorementioned CZ 75 Kadet for a reasonable price, in Canada.
