Thinking about beginning reloading and see that Murray Gardner sells the Dillon Square Deal for $439.00. Seems reasonable considering Dillon in the US sells them for about $320.00. Here is what I don't understand - Smoking Gun FX is selling the same unit on their site for $700.00 and saying it is on sale from $1000.00! What's up with that?

That's quite normal for certain dealers. Not only in firearm business but also in many other areas, such as cameras, computers, and so on.

I hear you on that and I expect it in most commercial areas. It's just that somehow it doesn't seem right in what I thought was a community of individuals opposed to such practices and I am disappointed more than anything. Now it will likely be a determining factor as to whether I decide to join their new indoor range under DVC Ventures in Port Coquitlam. Maybe there is a logical explanation and if so I'd like to hear it. That much of a difference goes well beyond reasonable price fluctuations.

The simple solution would be to give Kelly a call and find out. He's a great guy and I'm sure you will get a full explaination. Until you find out from him it is all speculation...

If you don't feel like doing that, just shrug and buy it from Murray. No one is forcing you to go to DVC after all. Why you would tie the pricing of his Dillon presses to joining his range is confusing. What does one have to do with the other? Are you worried he is going to make you buy the press to join? Go and shoot there but buy elsewhere would be a less dramatic solution.

Your thoughts are well taken but this is after all a place to chat and sometimes let off a bit of steam. As for the relation between the press and the range I was perhaps a bit obscure. What I meant was the cost of joining appears quite high and I wondered if it is also artificially inflated.

I have noticed (alot) in small firearms businesses, the price can fluctuate dramatically between shops.

I think it has alot to do with the suppliers. I know the local shop here was paying close to and sometimes more than retail prices on many of his products. Maybe Smoking gun is buying his presses from Murray Gardner???

what does Murrays kit include compared to Kellys?
as for his range price, overinflated compared to what? there are no other ranges like what he is offering, so he can set his prices as he feels he needs to, to stay above water. His prices are comparable to Phoenix in Edmonton from what I've read.
