price jump in remington 700 vtr

Canadian dollar went for dump so they upped the prices. My Savage 111 was $399 when I bought it, now its a shade under $500. I bought mine on Boxing Day so there was no GST.

The canadian dollar is part of it on newly imported items. Another major factor is the very high demand in the US. American distributors have increased their prices about 20% on many, many guns.
So prices haven't jumped only here. In america they are seeing comparable increases in price. I'm not sure that makes any of us feel better, but facts are facts.

It's because they know that we have absolutely no control over what they charge us and that their revenue won't decrease if a couple of us won't buy a new gun this year because we are pissed.

And no the dollar has little to do with it.

If you're in the market for one, I suggest you check around. There are several places still selling guns at "last years prices". Lets face it, when the dollar was on the rise, the prices certainly didn't drop overnight. No offence to any dealers, just what my observations are.

I know many of the dealers on this site offered some very good prices and tried their best to get them down as quickly as possible.

cost to distributor goes up, distributor passes on price to dealer who has no choice to survive but to up prices and hope everyone follows suit. Many dealers held prices on last years stock but did you notice that some of the BIG guys were "temporarily out of stock" at year end only to have the same gun back in stock a week or so later with a price increase of 20% to pad their pockets a bit. Guess who can then offer the big sale price later on and still make money.

It is the smaller dealers that have to move inventory to stay afloat that are making bare bones on a new rifle that either starve or get out of business that get hurt in the end.

guns imported from the USA are purchased for resale in Canada with US dollars, so yes a drop in the old loonie is going to affect the end retail price in canada as well.
