Price of 17Hmr/22Wmr same as .223?

At the current price levels, very little IMO. I can reload .204 for about the same cost as HMR, and the ballistics are far superior. The rimfire may be less damaging on small game. The rimfire may have a large capacity magazine and be semi-auto legally.

Still $15-$18 per 50 here for 22wmr/17hmr. Cheap .223 is FMJ and not hunting ammo, cheapest hunting .223 is still $1/round.

Thinking on the purpose of the three rounds. Having gotten out of to pretty firearms, i try to have each firearm have a specific purpose. So what would a purpose be for 17/22mag that another....22lr, 22 hornet, 204r, or 223 not do better. I am not saying that there is not a answer. I dont know your individual uses. IMO at the range the 22lr is my rifle i shoot to slow me down on my centerfires, the others are just more expensive versions fo the same. Would i use either in a varmit role if i had one of the above centerfires handy? I doubt it.

I payed $20+ tax for 22 mag vmax. I use it for jack rabbits and coyotes. I ambush frozen ditches for coyotes. In this close range role the 22 mag with 30 gr Vmax is almost unbeatable. I don't like the price but a box should net me close to 15 rabbits and 15 coyotes. The rest are to test range and scope settings

Its really personal choice. Im looking to ditch my .17hmr as im either using .22lr or my 22-250. I dont need an in between gun. Atleast not anymore.

Hey I am still waiting for my PAL, so if I got my gun facts/price wrong, forgive me.

I totally wasn't trying to bust your chops. I was more curious about Ammo prices across Canada as I see this same comment come up on here nearly monthly.
I've had firearms in both calibres and ended up selling the. 223 as all I do is punch paper.
Cheers☺

i've always heard it to be the 17hmr and 22 mag is the same price (if not more) as RELOADING your own .223 not store bought

^^Yup the guys seem to be correct, pretty sure it's not the same price, unless you reload it. Cheapest commercial 223 I could find is about $15 for 20 rounds (american eagle) up to $40 bucks per 20 in premium stuff, whereas the prices for 17/22 I am seeing are between $15-30 for 50.

I sold my .17hmr a few years ago and bought a .223 and a lee classic loader.. I can reload 50 rounds of 55gr V-max with saved brass in a couple hours for less then $0.35 a pop. if its just soft points then its only like $0.25... on par or cheaper, just add a bit of time and learning.

I still have a couple .22 rifles though, its still cheap enough for fun 100 yard target shooting.
