Price of lead?

My local scrapers will also pay 40 to 80 cents to buy a pound, problem is most won't resell to public. They would rather send to the very few smelters left in Canada and then international markets. That sold lead will likely never be as easily sourced by Joe Blow again, hence the disconnect in pricing for private vs commercial customers. I would never sell any of my considerable stash for a penny less than $2-3 a pound and I am certain I would have buyers for it all.

Unfortunately they don't sell anything...

It was locally owned and the owner always let me browse the yard for metal and sold me once a bucket full of linotype for lead price.
About two years ago he retired and sold the scrap yard to this large corporation and that was the end of the fun : (

Not that I need lead from them as I have a few lifetimes worth of lead squirreled away. I got most of my lead from tire places and plumbers.
Hey I think I know who you're talking about, used to be a client. Super nice guy, if we're talking about the same place.

You can buy lead shot for that price, and the good stuff not some homemade welfare shot.

I guess you can get better deals than I can on new lead shot. I have nothing that is that inexpensive locally. Looks like Budget Shooter has 25 lb bags of 7.5 lead shot for $140 +$30 shipping or $6.80 a pound plus tax. Sporteque has 25 pounds for $78 but shipping is $50 =$5.12/pound. Please let me know your cheaper source.

Buy the smaller shot, the difference in antimony on the trap stuff and big stuff is astronomical and its cheaper to boot. Made in Canada if that matters to you.
They’ve been around since christ was wearng cowboy boots.

Good lead, thanks. Unfortunately for me shipping always kills the good deal and will probably push the shot cost well past $3/pound. I still have a not too bad supply of shot but once that dwindles I will have to unpack a new Oasis shot maker that I picked up before covid and give "homemade welfare shot" making a try :). Most of my couple of tons or so of lead was acquired free to 75 cents a pound so probably worth the effort.

Bust it apart take the lead smelt it down sell it off in ingots muffin tins work even. I’m sure local casters would love to get their hands on it I would love to find a sailboat for free or next to it just for the keel be a good supply for myself.

The boats in dover. S2 8.0b. 27 foot. My bud bought it last year for $2k (without survey) after it was abandoned on cradle for about 4 years. I feel a hair responsible as I ran the moisture meter over the deck before he made his offer. Thought it was good but he got a survey this year that said it was unsafe. He doesn't have the time or energy to recore. Neither do I tbh. It's down to $800 (without outboard) and no reasonable offer refused but beware the 4k+ marina fees for a deep(er) keel boat on erie. I am in love with dover marina though....except for the 25% increase this year alone.

Scrap yard assumes it's dirty so 1800×0.4 less expenses doesn't seem like worth the time and health exposure cutting it up. There are other components but I was hoping for a bigger pay out from the lead.

Thanks anyway for the reality check.
Wish it was closer I’d come grab it doubt my truck can haul a 27 foot boat to Windsor from there.
