price of lead

well.
i just wanted to find out if this sounds right.

a guy offered to sell me some WW for $0.5 a pound and pure lead for $1 a pound.
would that be considered an ok price or is that a bit high?

Tell him you'll take a few 5 gallon pails for $25 a piece. I'm not sure if you meant fifty cents a pound or five cents a pound. If I had to ball park it, a pail of wheel weights must be 120-150 lbs and you could assume 100 or better lbs of lead once processed. At fifty cents/pound, you'd be getting ripped off IMHO.

While I'm not the authority on WW pricing, it sounds like he's trying to make money on the deal. That's about 2.5x the going rate for them. Hopefully someone else can step in and confirm.

High on the wheel weights, but pretty decent for the lead. Truck load quantities of lead are trading at 90 US cents per pound on the LME spot market today.

phone a scrap dealer & see what he will pay for both. Then check what he sells it for. Ask what premix lead & tin will be. Premix may be the way to go.
