Le Baron in Mississauga Ont

1000 Winchester large/magnum rifle primers 32.00 + tax
1000 Winchester large pistol primers 29.36 + tax

I was just going to post this.

CCI primers, according to their on line catalogue are now:

$25.63 for 1000 (standars large/small pistol and rifle).

That is a price increase of less than $2.00 from the printed catalogue ($23.92) I pick up there last September.

CCI small rifle primers 32.00 at Cabellas (SIR) in Winnipeg today. Bought 4000 this morning. Remington 6.5 and 7.5's small rifle 46.00. Wholesale Sports all sold out of small rifle... sadly no surprise there.

The lowest prices I could find in town were $48.99 for LR and $39.99 for LP. I have given up on centerfire rifle for the time being due to ridiculous costs.

I called the Sportmans Den in Red Deer last week and yesterday and they had Winchester Small Rifle primers for $40/brick (1000) including gst on product they had prior to new shipments. If later ones I was told $42.50. They had no LR. I prefer Federal (which nobody has that I have found yet-calledin Alberta & BC) but since my buddy needed SR, I bought the case of WSR and WLR from P & D Ent. along with some components yesterday. Their price was $45/brick but to pay for shipping withthe dangerous goods fee, I bought @ P&D and a friend on mine is picking it up for me and I''' meet him next week on a project and get my goods.

My supplier here in ON told me yesterday his cost is now 29.50 per thousand and he doesn't know when he will be able get some in. He offered me 1000 small and 1000 large pistol for 32.50 per M

have you ever seen prices drop back down, once people accept the new price??

You think this is the first time this has happened?:)

Back in the early/mid 90's there was a frenzy just like this. Price went up, supplies dried up, faces went down.:(

Eventually the demand wained and the prices came back down.

I'll bet most people who lived through that "shortage" are not paying $40+ for primers this time.

And you won't next time.;)

we make our own shortages

Where Has All the Ammo Gone? (And Primers, Brass…)
Filed under: Bullets, Brass, Ammo, News — Tags: ammo, Primers, Shortage — Editor @ 2 pm

“Sold Out” is the message these days at retail stores, gunshows, and online merchants. Our readers have reported that big outlet stores such as WalMart are completely sold out of loaded ammo in popular calibers. At a Sportsman’s Warehouse store, the shelves were bare (see photo below). Likewise at a gunshow we attended last week in California, vendors sold out their supplies of rifle primers… down to the last box. Many online e-merchants (including Grafs.com, MidwayUSA, and Wideners) are completely sold out of small and large CCI, Federal, Remington, and Wolf rifle primers.

Ammo shortage

What’s going on? Is this a wave of panic buying or are there other factors at play? First, it’s pretty clear that shooters nationwide are laying in large supplies of ammo, bullets, and primers. This is motivated by fears (justified or not) that Congress is contemplating new taxes on ammo and reloading components. Also, there has been increased demand for ammunition for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that has siphoned off some of the supply of primers from CCI and Federal. However, the primary cause of the shortages is “panic buying” and hoarding by gun owners. Amy Bruno tells us that none of her suppliers have notified her of any production issues. CCI, Federal, and Remington are cranking out as many primers as ever, but supplies are selling out as soon as they hit the shelves.

There's going to be a rather large backlog of primers over the next year or so. Olin who distributes Winchester primers in Canada is backordered something like 1 million primers. There is definately going to be a shortage on ammo be it factory or reloads so I too have jumped on the panic band wagon and stocked up on enough of everything to last until the next US election. By then we should have a republican president and the ammo taps will be turned back on.

Its interesting that this little round cap can cause the entire shooting industry to fall on its collective asses as everything is connected to the primer. And, its one of those components that we cannot easily duplicate. SO I suggest we all take up shooting flint locks as its the only firearm that is pretty much self sufficient and anything it needs can be made without the need of big industry.:p

BTW, LeBarons (Mississauga) appear to be out of primers as of yesterday.

1 million primers is not alot. 100,000 primers would fit in a 24 case of beer.
I bought 10,000 a couple weeks ago. Other guys buy 5 - 10 K at a time as well.

10 guys = 100,000 primers..... 100 guys, you get the idea. Maybe if they were behind 1 billion.
