There seems to be (in my opinion) a large number of people who post here who are seeking the price a milsurp can bring them. They are not collectors nor are they really interested in the details except that as might increase the asking price.

There are professionals who will do an appraisal- they do as well hunt that elusive rarity to sell to the right market. If the person is not a regular poster nor a collector would it not be more sensible to give them the price you would pay for the item rather than the price you might hope to get should you sell that same item?

I am rather disgusted when some uninformed person who is not willing to research an item asks what is this and what can I sell it for? (GET FOR IT?) Obviously not a person who cares, just a greedy person looking for a fast buck. Then they get mad when they find that said item does not turn over a quick buck. Instead they have to hang on to it until the right person comes along.

Why not tell the person the price it will bring for a fast sell? If the person is some one who will try to find the right person and put in the effort -wants to know- then you could estimate the " possible value".

A community of collectors , freely exchanging information , is a very good thing. But simply "USING" the regular contributors to make a quick buck is not fair.

I will help anyone who appears to have an INTEREST in the workings of the things, their design and development and their history.

On the other hand, I am sick and tired of being used as an unpaid evaluation service.

For that reason, I only very rarely give values any more.

But the SMART ones have seen around that. NOW, they get all the information they think they can use.... and the item is on the EE the next day, along with all the information they have gleaned to back up their top-rank pricing.

So now I only bother replying to the ones I think are serious. It means a LOT less answers.

In the immortal words of Ebenezer Scrooge, "Bah, HUMBUG!".

And I can say that; my gg-uncle invented him.

Greedy persons are entitled to look for a fast buck. If you don't want to tell them where to look, don't. I might not, but I won't go as far as misleading them.

Most times when I have read such a "whats it worth" type of post there is always a range from low to high in response.

What the seller chooses to list the item at is none of your business honestly.

I laugh at some of the ads I see in the EE. There are tons of them, not just milsurps, that are ridiculously priced and that is no secret. Why get upset?

No offense but it seems like you are looking to pick up a gun or two at what you consider a "fast sell price", and not having too much luck.

If the seller is willing to take the time, what is the issue?
 
The Seller taking the time to list something is no concern.

It is when he poses as a collector or student and wastes MY time for HIS gain that I have an issue with it.

The other part of your post was plain insulting..... and you know it, Tovarishch.

In other news, I now have a WW2 1911 that apparently is worth $4600...actually, it's unmolested, so that probably adds a lot of value for a "purest".
 
I hope the "student" part isn't directed at me smellie ahaha! I once asked for a quote on a really nice Garand that I recently acquired but I don't intend on selling it anytime soon :)

Anyways, though, I've also noticed the trend you guys are discussing and personally feel that misleading someone isn't really an honest thing to do...but if someone is dumb enough (or doesn't care enough) to get multiple opinions/research what they've got then perhaps they don't deserve to get top dollar for it.

I'm sure some will disagree with me but hey, it's just my $0.02
 
While we're complaining don't forget all those ads with FIRM price, NO LOWBALLLERs/WILL BE IGNORED with pricing at RETAIL, yeah save the taxes. EE is flooded with these junk posts that are bumped weekly polluting the page and bumping all the legit sellers.
 
I have noticed the following: A thread to discuss the said firearm - and the said firearm will be for sale at that very time in the EE - likely a way to "advertise" the gun for an easier sale.

And on the note of over-priced items - the EE is quite literally littered with them. My fave is always the tupperware sks with a receiver cover mount nc star scope - and their "interests have changed" or "selling to fund other projects"...willing to part with it for 600 BUCKS. Good grief.

To each their own thoug! :)
 
It doesn't matter what we tell them. there just going to see it for some ridicules price ,on an american auction site, and want the same kind of money. a perfectly good example is the fellow with the svt 38s . its all about the money or trading for a $3000. Winchester.
 
Its from the war, it has to be worth a fortune! Somewhere in between the $600 italian mauser (carcano) & the $100 old rifle with the ugly stock & crappy scope(k98 turret sniper, vet bring back), lies the crazy world of milsurps. Sad part is the folks that really care about these old smokepoles suffer at the hands of the speculators.

Edit - I've removed my add. Decided to keep the Switch, which would eventually fetch $4000 plus.

As for the above quote, let's see pictures of it. Take her apart and post those too. You have documents accounting for every day that gun has been in existence?

What is YOUR definition of "unmolested"?

One grip screw gets swapped out - still original?

Worth is what ever someone will pay for it. It may not be a price your happy with but maybe some one is. I agree the ee is flooded with overpriced items that have pages of bumps, but that is no business of mine, it's starting to be that way at gun shows and auctions too. The days of finding a good deal are almost gone, it's still possible to find a fair deal, but most people want to pay as little as possible and the seller wants the most he can get out of it. It's the way of the world!
