Prices Through The Roof!!

In October I paid $17 for a brick of AE .22 hollow point, yesterday I paid $21 for the same thing in the same shop. (and they had a pallet of it)

We should make a post about stores that jack up prices for any little reason - (just like the oil companies)...and shame them
The stores that switch the stickers on the boxes to a higher price. Not the stores that get boned by paying a higher price from a distributor.

I'll start with Target Sports............

all i know is that Hub Sports in Abbotsford is about 10 bucks more expensive than anywhere around. Remington Core-Lokt 7mm is almost 48 bucks at Hub, and i can get it for 33 bucks at CT. Hub doesn't have the buying power most stores do, so i can sort of see the higher prices.

*cough* Wild West Shooting Gallery.....

Sounds good...the lowest I've been able to buy them is at $36/brick. :yingyang:

About $45/brick, last time I checked...? :(

I think they are very under-rated, and one of my favourite brands of plinking ammo! :)

Or clearing old inventory.....

I've heard good things about this ammo, but one silly question - is it "dirty"?

I paid 59.99 this summer in caroline for a brick of CCI stingers, I got ripped off bigtime.

the reason Hubs is so high is the supplier they are getting thier ammo through. They are a fishing tackle shop first these days...... since the "incident" a few years back that saw the firearms side of the business curtailed. Roger runs a great shop though and i drop a few bucks there from time to time. If I am correct they do not import thier ammo they get it from a local sporting goods wholesaler... apply the typical tackle shop retail margins and ....... pretty hard to compete with canadian tire. I spent many years working for one of Hubs competitors as retail staff, mangement, purchasing agent... ect ect. My wholesale price on 7mmremmag at the time, was only a few bucks cheaper than canadian tire.. hit it with a 1.73 margin and you can quickly see the price to the customer being 10 bucks more than CT.

that's true 45ACPKING. Hub is a great shop. i go there for all my fishing needs, as well as a lot of archery stuff. they've always been good to me. i have no beef with them other than their high ammo and gun prices. but they'd still see plenty of my money if i gave up shooting altogether. it's tough to beat the service i get in there. :D

I like when guys talk about good service, and its relation to higher priced merchandise. Its the guys that continually complain about poor service and are willing to endure it to save marginal amounts of money, like shopping at Wholesale. FS

some of my local shops give poor service and high prices. i agree hubs isn't cheap but the sevice is good. you can fill out your limited entry cards and leave them with hubs as they courior them at there own expence as a customer service.

Chances are the ammo came to TARGET via another store or from us in Calgary where they paid almost or the actual sticker price simply because they wanted to have it in stock.

All of the prices in Calgary and TO are based on landed cost... I will double check, but it is definitely our policy to raise prices on things in-stock unless we find that it was labeled wrong to begin with.

In the Dartmouth/Halifax area (and within 100 KM or one hour away) there are about 10 gun dealers and most of which cannot compete with the volume purchases/sales of Wal*Mart and Canadian Tire. As a result I always purchase my ammo from Wal*Mart as in the past year they have been cheaper than Canadian Tire for .22LR bulk packs and 12 gauge bulk packs.

.

Kind of a catch-22 huh? They can't compete volume-wise because you won't buy at the local gun store, you won't buy at the local gun store because they can't compete.

One of you has the ability to maybe change that.

I was at the Dundas St., E, TSC store today and they had Winchester Wildcat .22lr HV bullets, bricks of 500 for $19.95. More expensive than last year but not a bad price and so, I bought 2 bricks. They shoot pretty good in my lakefield 64b semi. Remington cyclones that work really well in my lakefield are going for $4.95 a box of 50 at Gobles. Can't remember what the brick went for.

i was gonna buy a 22 magnum rimfire . not now . the guy i buy from has been trying to sell me a 17 hmr . i just laugh . not at those prices for ammo .i will stick with my 22 lr .

.22LR at canadian tire is still 22$ which is reasonable.

However, I was at russells today and noticed that a brick of 45acp remington UMC (250 rounds) was 150$!!!!!!!!

9mm was still the same price as last summer at around 80$ for 250 rounds, but 45 went up 50$ since then!
I remember paying 105$ back in july for 45...

Glad I just bought a Loadmaster I can reload FMJ 9mm for around $170x1000 and using lead SWC I reload .45acp for about $190x1,000, that's if I bought everything right now, as i am currently using my inventory, it's more $150 for 9 and $160 for 45. Now if reload 1,000 rds of 45 i will have paid for the new press!!
