I see the Portuguese 308 is going for $250 USD/1000rds. We can get it for $320 CDN/1000rd from our board sponsors. We are getting a good deal on that, but too bad about all the other calibres. Thanks for posting the approved ammo lists.
 
Yes Komrade Mykhaylo, then we could stock ourselves well, we need 'bahato kuli' . Remember what Nikita Khruschev once said - "Our quality is quantity". :)
 
It'd be nice if personal use ammo didn't need to be on the approved list, but I don't think that's the case. Though that may just be me being misinformed...

Need to look into that now though. gonna be making a trip south of the border in May, and would like to bring back some ammo if I can.

I guess we can always take it up to GT to see if he would ok a "group buy" thread, get enough guys interested to make it worth getting the ball rolling, 5K rounds to a man, and we could fill a truckload (or ten) of the stuff to keep the shipping costs down, all that would be needed is to coordinate with a Canada-friendly U.S. dealer, and we know a few of those already. Gotta figure out that approved/not approved business first though, and wether there are exceptions to the "approval" for individuals/not for resale. Of course, each individual participant would be responsible for getting the green light for the export on the U.S. side of things, said export is one's ticket on the import truck(s).

You can't, but not because of Canada regulation. As an non-resident alien you cannot come into possession of firearms or ammunition in the USA. The only way to get US ammo into Canada is to go thru the importation process, by obtaining Canadian import permit, passing it to your US FFL licensed dealer and having them do your paperwork. I dunno how many times that has been written here...

I am still convinced that ammo, imported for personal use, does not need to be on the list, but that is only my impression, do not hold me to it.

Wether shops or dealers in the US will sell it to you is a different matter.
If you fly back and US customs stop you, you may be charged. Canada Customs doesn't care as long as you pay duty on the purchase. Keep your receipts.

You may be legal on the Canadian side, but you are in violation of several US laws, namely being in possession of ammunition because you are not a US citizen, trying to export ammunition without an export permit plus whatever other charges they may want to add. You may be able to buy ammo from some unsuspecting salesman, which right there is intent to break the law. Do you want to lose your vehicle, your possessions, be charged, spend up to 10 years in an American jail all for trying to save a bit on some ammunition? It isn't worth the risk. :mad:

We all remember the glory days of bringing back ammo by the handfull, but the laws have changed, and it is no longer legal to do, even though it still is technically so as far as our customs is concerned.

Locals in the gunshop run across the border all the time to buy shells, they don't want to hear any of this, I guess its just going to take that random police stop or US border checkstop and a few charges to prove some of them wrong.

If I had a dollar for everytime this comes up I think I'd be able to afford my AR by now. :)

I was explaining the legalities of something that is simple. Purchasing ammunition in the states. What if the person has a hunting license?
I also said in my previous post that Us customs may charge you if caught with it.
 
FYI,

I purchased ammunition in the states at Walmart. They asked for my Firearms licence so I showed them. They said no problem....? I was stunned to say the least.
but i got my ammo;
"needless disclaimer- not legal in the states to purchase ammunition unless you have a hunting licence from one of the states."
 
This started out as a good thread with, with real info and factual discussion. Unfortunately, someone always has to discuss how they got their ammo from the US, regardless of the laws. Just because you get away with import or a US dealer doesn't care who he sells to, doesn't make it ok to discuss here.

CGN respects the laws of Canada and the US. If you want to import/export ammo illegally, don't discuss it here.

ANY thread/posts with discussion of illegal ammo importation from the US will be deleted without warning. Because there is always someone who ruins the thread for the rest of the members, it's best just to avoid the issue entirely.

My apologies to the members who follow CGN rules.
