Pricing wtf

I bought a Ruger American from Prophet River. It was so poorly finished and rough that I sent it back. Clay sent me another one and that went back too. I *might* still have pictures of the issues that I sent to him. He was awesome about it, so I just ended up buying a much more expensive rifle from him - 7mm Wby MkV Ultralight - and never looked at Ruger Americans again. That's the point I became a customer for life at Prophet River - my brother has bought several rifles from them and I regularly send people their way.

For a rifle in that +/-$1000 price range the only new one I am aware of that compares to a Tikka is Howa, but they are quite a bit heavier. Also, I think the Mauser M18 is a screaming deal right now at well under $800. I think Prophet River has them on for $699.

Look at the prices of the new Hawkeye/ Alaskan / guide gun etc. ruger has come a long way as far as accuracy goes. Every ruger American I’ve owned has been a tack driver. Rough around the edges yes. Feel cheap, also yes. But they shoot

If accuracy over all else was the pursuit, for years the Ruger was the standout value, $300 less than the Tikka, and good enough to get the job done, value to dollar wise, you couldn't beat it. Now, with the weak CAD dollar, import fees and tariffs, the Tikka represents the better deal, when you can score a Tikka for $100 more than a Ruger. Previously i had 4 or 5 Ruger Americans and though I had bought a couple of Tikka's I ultimately sold them all. Now i have 1 American and 4 Tikkas. 🤷‍♂️

Ruger prices haven't really gone up stateside, you can pick one up for $450-$550. Now what are they up here? Over $1000 CAD?
The Ruger Americans were$1060 and the Tikkas $999

CTC corporately does not set the price on firearms - the prices are at the discretion of the store owner. Owners can choose or not choose to sell firearms .

Living in a town where the owners change every 3 years, we see fluctuations in prices depending on the new owner.

The reason you see sales at turnover time is because the new owner is not required to purchase the firearms inventory from the outgoing dealer, as they are the dealers inventory and not corporate inventory .
