Besides the cost of a barrel and the cost of the rifle. What would the approximate cost be for having a Ruger #1 re-barreled? Would it be better to have it re-bored? I am thinking I need one in 338-06

It comes in hordes of chamberings so Ruger has either been very busy or somebody is making barrels. And there is a .338-06. A guy was bragging about one on 24 hour campfire back in 2011. Not seeing who makes 'em. Mystic will likely know.

Wrong as usual. Re-boring would cost far less than machining and installing a new barrel. About half the price, or $300-$400-ish. Most gunsmiths charge around $250 to install an easy barrel (thing Savage or Remington 700), more for barrels that require additional milling (including the Ruger no. 1, Mauser rifles with extractor cut etc.), and your average contoured match blank runs around $400-$500. None of that includes the installation of sights and rails, or refinishing (if a CM barrel is chosen), as would be required on the Ruger No. 1. A Rebore cuts out all the extra machining and simply re-does the bore. Ron Smith charges in that $300-$400 range, I believe.
As for your assertion that the No. 1 comes in "hordes" of calibers, that is not entirely true nor false. Ruger has manufactured No. 1s in hordes of calibers, but they generally only manufacture one chambering per year, with additional small custom batches for certain clients.
