just curious if i should use a paint primer on the wood stock before i spray the stock with rubberized rockerguard? i already stripped and sanded the stock and have everything taped off. just not sure if i should prime first or not.

i am using the undercoating to give the stock texture then a coat of krylon spraypaint.

thanks for any help

I talked to a firm that does Armorguard bed liners (like Rhinoliner). Said they have done a few wood stocks. They rough up the wood, degrease, shoot a primer coat and apply. Quoted me under 50.00.

Next time your in K-W region, slip into the Line X or Rhino liner. They should do it for you. The linings are truck bed linings and will last longer then rockerguard. Plus, rockerguard gets "soft/mushy" in the heat and sun

well i guess thats sucks. i just cant see myself driving 45 minutes to an hour one way and spending $50. too pricy for my liking since the gun is less than 250 new.

any other suggestions for having a textured finish?

i had rockerguard on the gun before and had the gun out a few times and i never had any problems. i was planning on spraying a thin coat of rockerguard then just 1 or 2 coats of spray paint. i laos thouhgt it might look cool if i held the spray far away just to get specs of paint so in the end i would see half paint half rockerguard.

USE THE BEDLINER SOLD AT CANADIAN TIRE FOR $10 A CAN.
I used it on my .308 and it is a great product, dries to a hard plastic finish, can be painted and does not chip as easily as rockguard nor will it soften in the heat.
You can achieve the same look as with rockguard but with a tougher finish.
