Primer error

Today, I inadvertently reloaded 20 rounds of 9mm luger with small rifle primers. Would there be a problem firing these rounds or should they be scrapped? Thanks for any advice.
 
Depends on the load you used.....

Rifle primers will have more 'pop' than pistol primers. With a medium load you would have an over pressure situation. I would hate to see what would happen with a near max load......

You may not have a KB when they are fired but why take a chance..... Pull em apart and deprime. Reload with the proper primers.

Mistakes happen. The trick is to catch them before you blow yourself of your property up!

I would shoot a few and be alert for anything abnormal. Some people use small rifle primers in pistols in order to reduce the number of different primer types they keep on hand.

Personally I wouldn't follow this advise......

I have only ever heard of this in magnum pistol loads...... ie; 357 mag..... Substituting small pistol magnum primers for rifle primers. This should also only be done after extensive testing!

I have seen quite a few squib loads in all my years shooting. 9mm in particular. A case with no powder will stick a projectile in the barrel every time. I know a fella who used to load up squib loads for a smith pistol just using rifle primers. He used to shoot them in his basement. He claimed to never have one stick in the barrel. I have seen him shoot these loads on a couple of occasions. They do actually work..... Personally IMO it's a waste of time and components, all you are really doing is practicing trigger control which can be accomplished using snap caps.

Just fire them out of a 9mm rifle.

But in case you don't have any:
I wouldn't worry so much about a difference in pressure, but simply that the thicker cups may not be set off with the weaker firing pin strike of a pistol.

Though probably a second or third strike on each would set off those few rounds. Far easier than taking them apart, and more fun too.
